1) edumacation guy is right, gault isnt a great writer. But he is passable, and he is writing about a niche topic without much competition, so passable is sufficient. If anybody thinks they can do better and wants go start a competing site, nobody is stopping them. I know I cant write better than gault, and I have no interest in trying to start a better website, that's a lot of freaking work and money to do that, and might still fail.

I think "the most loaded" team is meant to refer to their overall accomplishments, rather than the BEST college cross country team in the moment.
Found the 2009 Colorado Buffaloes women that finished 20th if you can believe that:
Laura Thweatt: 2x Trials 5th place finisher (2016 10k, 2020 Marathon)
Emma Coburn: Olympic Bronze, World Gold & Silver
Jenny Simpson: Olympic Bronze, World Gold & Silver (x2)
Allie McLaughlin: Their top finisher as a frosh, dropped of the radar, then eventually became a world mountain running champ.

I think that was the year Adams went to Chili Pepper and beat Arkansas (not Colorado), then both teams went on to win their respective NCAA championships. I know this may be lost to the past, but historians - did Arkansas run a full strength squad at that race? The legends seem to suggest they did, but I've never seen results.

WSU had Ngeno, Murphy and Kimeto in '74 and Rono, Kimombwa and Kimeto in '76 but didn't have a ton of depth. Good enough to just not win as a team.

Once again, this is one of those often repeated, yet completely untrue fabrications that has been restated so many times on this board that many of the DII/NAIA old school guys have actually come to believe it happened.
It didn't.
Vigil DID bring his guys in, and he did have a very special team that year who did go on to the championship, but they didn't beat Arkansas.
I think where the myth started is that Arkansas DID get beat at home at the Chili Pepper during this time of domination in their history, but it wasn't Adams, it was an NAIA school. I personally witnessed the azz-chewing the Arkansas guys received after that home-course loss.
