I know a guy who should join. He's not a high school runner, but rumor is he's been putting up some good time trials at altitude. Other rumor is he's an altitude hermit though, scared to race at sea level.

Of course, this is an impressive workout. To run 800 in 1:59 solo and then continue with 400-200 in 61/29, and then after full rest of quite a while still scrape out 2:03-61-29 is terrific. But he went out in 57 for the first lap of the whole workout and that made it into a destructive lactic suffer fest, so I hope they get good pacing on Saturday. I don't think he's quite there right now, but if he gets out at 59-60, he should run 4:01-2.
Sounds like Daschback has been working hard as well. 10x400 at 60 or faster among other things mentioned.

BASED on what we've learned from the BB Effect, we need to DECLARE, right now, will we accept a sub-4 from any of these guys if they do it and are paced???
WE NEED TO ALIGN before the weekend whether the LRC public opinion holds a sub-4 to be true if it happens. If not, there is no point for us to discuss.
For me, if it happens, it is LEGIT!!!!!

Easton Allred is the same age in everyone else in his class. He finished his high school requirements early, which, if more of you were more half-bright, you'd recognize that any half-bright kid could do (Bryce Harper dropped out of HS to get a GED just to accelerate his baseball career), but choose to do only to, in effect, stay in high school, like Easton has. It makes sense for a running kid to do this so he starts college at BYU as a more competitive runner for the setting. It's a weird path full of premature inspirational videos, but he's legit for the race.

Altitude converted net downhill times are completely legit.

Does anyone at milesplit have any idea how hard it is to PR by 8 seconds in the mile when you're already at 4:10 or so? Does anyone really believe there's any scenario in which this race could accommodate anyone who was even remotely capable of running near four minutes for the mile (not the 1600M)? Strangio, healthy, with seasoned vets pacing him COULD have a shot. Maybe. The others' PRs make this whole thing look like a ridiculous PR-stunt (intended) designed to give kids who have lost their seasons something to mislead their friends and families about. It's a non-event.
When you're that young, it's not the craziest thing. Lots of high school kids go from 4:10 to 4:03 in one race. Plus, these new guys have faster xc times than almost anyone in history.
Daschbach has a really good chance for sub-4 in my book. Ran under 1:50 in a TT. Sprout's 3200 at altitude indicates he could do it too. Allred ran 4:09 two years ago and just ran a pretty solid workout.
A lot has to come together to break 4, but it is very possible for at least one. Plus, they will have a rabbit and competition. It won't be all that much different from a normal race.
Is anyone else a little surprised that this is happening at all? A lot of the group has to travel to CA which requires flying/driving/other transit. These kids are all young so I assume additional family members will be joining them. So after exposing themselves to get to a location they're going to race against people they haven't been self-isolating with? This seems a bit reckless. I know they're lower risk but it seems like a giant middle finger to put your own interests over the rest of us. There will be other races. This isn't a once in a lifetime mile attempt.
Some runners have gotten slammed during COVID for a lot less. I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be much backlash on this.
Covid ended a few days ago. 90% of the population woke up and realized that living your life is more important than dying. And the stats are showing that getting outside actually lowers your risk anyway.

Where do you get 4:10 as the fastest these guys have run?
Leo and Cole are definitely qualified as worthy candidates for class of 2020 sub4 candidates
Sprout ran 4:04 for full mile in 2019.
Daschbach a 4:05 as a junior.
Full miles, not 1600
Sprout and Daschbach also ran 14:16 and 14:14 for 5k
Leo's 1:48 time trial two weeks ago is great indicator for a sub 4.
Sprout ran 8:49 at 5200 feet elevation 2 weeks ago.
You are correct about the others though. No chance.
...Add Culpepper, Young, and Strangio to this event and it would be an epic for the ages.
Make no mistake though, 2 of these guys are very capable of breaking 4.
I fully agree. Three could do it in this event if weather is perfect and a pacer takes the out in 59-59. ,

Yeah I'm not looking for partisan takes. I know people need to make money & I know that younger runners are not getting hit the hardest but there's still risk to be traveling out of state & they could still affect the people around them. This seems reckless/selfish/immature for something that doesn't matter. They're all going to run faster than whatever they do at this thing in their careers.
