Zohran Mamdani just won an election on a complete policy platform and is implementing it. Government subsidized childcare and public transit, enforcing existing building codes by seizing properties owned by slumlords who don’t maintain them, building subsidized grocery stores in food deserts, increasing taxes on corporations and the uber-wealthy are all clear parts of his policy agenda. He is popular because New Yorkers think these are things that will benefit a vast majority of them. He is able to articulate his policy ideas intelligently unlike Trump who rambles and writes run-on sentences + misuses capitalization on Truth Social at 2:00 am.

I have plenty of my own ideas, such as passing legislation that requires transparency in medical billing to prevent asymmetric information. Basically, your provider would be required to inform you of the cost of an exam or procedure before you’d be allowed to agree to it. Also, the third-party payer system in healthcare is terrible. Many people think that a Medicare-for-all system would be both cheaper and far more equitable for Americans. Trump has no healthcare plan despite saying that he’s had one for years.

Stop arguing in bad faith. Plenty of people who oppose Trump have policy ideas and you must know this unless you’re a complete moran.

She beat his MAGA guy that Trump endorsed by 15 points. Even the MAGA guy immediately conceded because he was trounced so bad. Nobody in the world dared to question those results except one dumb orange human being.

One would think if we were a serious country, we would be able to fully recognize that Trump says everything he loses is rigged. And one would think he would be prosecuted for seizing ballots to try to say 2020 was rigged again. All with the goal of cheating the midterms.

We are not a serious country.

And this election had fewer than 100,000 total votes with democrats especially energized to “steal” a seat they’d never win otherwise. He will lose bigly in November.

Note on the metric: Obviously, even with a consistent methodology, the measures will be somewhat subjective, but that’s more like having a greater margin of error than you’d get with something inherently quantitative that you can measure fairly precisely rather than a mere fabrication born of bias (the only real “bias” being that the people doing this tend to be firmly pro-democracy).

Note on sources: the guy posting this is not a far lefty, but apart from his military interests, he is particularly sensitive to the move of right-wing parties worldwide into far-right parties (make of that what you will). FT is generally center-right, so very far from a biased outlet like MSNBC/MSNOW. JBM, who created the chart, is widely respected for his data visualization but is not primarily a political analyst or commentator.

Another possible way to look at potential bias: something disastrous pitched by Democrats fairly recently like “court-packing” would not necessarily be considered antidemocratic if it were to be ratified constitutionally (I'd still consider it highly unwise and likely damaging, to say the least). But it would be unlikely to be ratified as, say, an amendment. So if some other maneuver were used to circumvent the constitution (I know of no such serious proposals), that would be a severe affront to democracy and would strongly affect the score noted there in FT, I believe.

I believe our current president was horrified by the “birther debate” and can’t imagine what got into any and all who would make such charges about Obama. Glad all the people who are now his followers took the moral high road by letting that one “slide” for Hillary.
