Repeatedly defending a brutal Islamist terrorist organization’s atrocities does not give you any credibility when pointing out the ones the Israeli commits, or spouting antisemitic tropes.

I’m critical to the actions Israel has done but that won’t make me embrace Hamas, Hezbollah or Iran. Look at Europe where are both sanctions and indictments, but not antisemitism.

US is planning on moving air power out of Israel and back to Europe this weekend if negotiations are ongoing. That could quickly be reversed, but it is an indication that the US is no longer planning on renewing attacks on Iran (and there is a good argument to be made that this could have been one of the biggest and most expensive military bluffs in human history, but assigning intent with the Trump administration is a major challenge).

Neocons and the Israelis are doing their best to keep Trump from doing a deal with Iran. Steve Forbes joined John Bolton in penning an op ed calling for the US to "bomb bomb bomb . . . bomb bomb Iran" (ok that was the late Sen. McCain, but not much of a difference in politics at this point). Israel has said that it may unilaterally resume attacks on Iran if negotiations fail.

Anyone trying to figure out where the parties are in negotiation would be up for a challenge. Iranian media circulated what they claimed was a draft memorandum for an extended ceasefire. The US responded that the draft was a fabrication. But good for the goose, good for the gander. The US has repeatedly made vague claims that Iran had agreed to concessions that Iran never agreed to. Very strange new diplomacy by social media and news leaks. Kind of shows why in the past world leaders would do this by sitting down together at a neutral location. But when you send dufuses like Witkoff and Vance to negotiate, you can see why the process has broken down.

And now a new front in this mess is emerging. Somaliland, the somewhat recognized breakaway state from Somalia on the southeast coast of the Red Sea on the horn of Africa, is making moves to host the US military at its deep water port in Berbera. Iran is pissed off as this would allow the US the ability to more easily attack the Houthis and let the US stop any effort to shut down the Bab al-Mandab Strait. Not sure whether this throws a wrench in peace negotiations. But the Trump administration bull in china shop approach knows no bounds.
