Look to the autoadmit lawsuit; as far as I can tell after quickly reading it over, a professor sued a student at his own lawschool pro bono on behalf of the yale ls plaintiffs. That case settled. My guess is that letsrun could not really be sued, but the individual posters can be, if they can be identified, and letsrun can be forced to turn over what they have on those posters. But I am not sure.

The second thing any attorney defending such a suit would do would be to depose the plaintiff. That might prove a little too revealing for NOP.

I think the USADA is trying something new. The Lance Armstrong case set a precedence for not requiring a positive test to convict someone. The USADA would love to nail the NOP. If they do nail the NOP for anything it will be using circumstantial evidence. Evidence that is legally questionable but that the USADA and WADA thinks is bulletproof.

The people calling for the removal of these threads are a vocal minority (Nike employees) that can't see the big picture. Please stop embarrassing yourself.

I am a big fan of Taofik Makhloufi, however, and hate how so many baselessly accuse him of cheating. So, this thread is very relieving to me.

The sport of T&F gaining a larger fan base has nothing to do with this thread, or other trolling threads on the site. What you're saying is akin to arguing that the discussions on race on this forum somehow contribute to the civil rights movement. Freely discussing doping and idiot middle school trolls popping online and stating athlete XYZ failed a drug test aren't quite the same thing; not amongst rational mature people, anyway.

- Censorship isn't simply censorship when falsehoods are removed. Nor is it simply 'censorship' when you don't provide a platform for anonymous trolls.

- When someone lies, and a publication then removes those comments, that's not censorship, it's reasonable behavior.

- Maybe if those trolls DO head somewhere else, LRC will be a better place. I'm reasonably confident of this.

- This thread isn't about rumored doping; it's about accusations of someone failing a test. Those are critically different conversations, though the topic may have some overlap.

a) Is Taoufik Makhloufi doping? Maybe. His London performances were 'odd' to say the least, and everyone here has some argument that supports their opinion on the matter.

b) Centro failed a drug test? That's yes or no. And now, with the support of LRC's staff (by reopening this thread), this question on Centro won't go away. Any time in the future there's some question over a race he runs, or he doesn't run, or an injury he mentions, or a coaching decision, etc, etc, etc, this thread will, directly or indirectly, come up. For what? Why? It's clearly an unsubstantiated trolling move, and you know it and I know. And the brojos know it … so why pretend the conversation is anyone 'freely discussing doping'? It's not.

Given that the person who made the original accusations has made no effort whatsoever to clarify whats/he was talking about, or support their comments in any way at all, what harm is there in deleting the thread?

We know it was a rumor started offline mid last week and picked up by 3-4 news outlets, who found "nothing to report." My guess is maybe some people spotted Centrowitz going to/from a testing facility, or so they thought, and thought he must have had a positive A sample and was going back for the B, or maybe he failed the B and was going back for the review panel... explains Salazar being on tilt the weekend before. But of course doping results wouldn't be made public for another 2-5 weeks so they had nothing to actually report, hence no story. But, for all we know, this rumor could be true, and we won't hear about it for up to 5 weeks.

Nothing about Makhloufi is any more "weird" or substantiated than Centrowitz. A 3:34 guy winning a bronze medal? If you want to put a cloud of suspicion over Makhloufi than you must accept one over your favorite athletes too.

Centro is hardly one of my 'favorite athletes'; I'd hold the same position of any athlete. It's simply beyond lame to post accusations that an athlete failed a drug test if there's not a single shred of evidence to support that; if, for example, the situation is as you describe, all the OP has to do is come on and say 'here's what I know', or "here's what I heard" or "so and so saw Centro come back from a testing facility" or whatever … instead? Nothing. Even the brojos came out with this 'I overheard offline something about this' without stating anything beyond that; which is a little bit ridiculous.

This thread is about on par with the one a couple weeks ago where the kid said he was going to commit suicide .. and even after he came on the forum and acknowledged he was trolling, and repeatedly said 'take the thread down", etc, etc, the thread was left online for a long, long time.

We don't know it was started offline at all.

3 or 4 said they heard the rumor, not published an actual story.

So you agree, the thread should be left open so that this can happen?

"My best guess" because I don't care about the rumor. If five weeks go by and we still haven't heard of a failed test, I'll assume it was all fake. Someone else can ask wejo where he heard the rumor, which he mentioned in the article, if they really want to know.

When Weldon posted in this thread the first time, I immediately asked him to check the IPs of 3 or 4 users in this thread who claimed they "heard this rumor." I figured if one or more came from the same IP then it was an obvious troll. He confirmed that they were separate IPs, and that he and other reporters had already heard this rumor in the middle of last week. And, that if a thread is an obvious troll attempt they delete it.

So, the only alternative is wejo himself is pulling a giant hoax on all of us, in which case I think he has the power to do a much better job than this thread. So, I do not think that is a likely explanation.

Still no direct denial from the Centro Camp.

This thread is libelous and should be removed. This is not mere speculation. This is a set of lies about positive tests and the like.
