Small Victory. Last Tuesday I sent a comment to the blog that Alison did of her race and the collision. I was very respectful and UnLet'sRun like. Yeah. I was the same way...and it got deleted. Here is a shot of it prior to deletion.

I still stand by the stance I took on about the second page.

The plodder who hits the woman has all the time in the world to avoid her. He could see what was happening as he was jogging along.

She admits she made a mistake but there was no need for what he did. We've all been on slow jogs for warm ups and recovery, so we know the speed these hobby-triguys run at.

It's still "going on" in that one person is creating several different handles to defend his actions and blame the woman.

My guess is that because he was publicly outed by name (and his employer named), it's not bad to have a ton of 'support' (in the form of an anonymous, registration-free message board) to back yourself up to friends, coworkers, employer, etc. After all - if "this many people" agree that it was right for him to hit a chick in a completely avoidable situation, then he must have done nothing wrong.

Right? Pretty smart move, even if it's completely transparent.

I am 100% not him. But that doesn't matter - you need proof, so go to the link above about complaining on the Apple Seeds facebook page and see who the complaint is logged by. Certainly not the tri guy you claim him to be.

You have a point there, but here are some mitigating circumstances.

The entire incident took just a few seconds. The video shows just about 1 sec from the beginning (she's about half way across the lane) to point of impact. Assuming she started at about the same angle and packpedaled at about the same velocity, you can assum 3 seconds from the roadside to point of impact.

Let's assume that he's kicking it in at 6:30 per mile pace, that's 4.1 meters per second. Assume that walking backwards she's at 25 minutes per mile, which is 1.1 (rounded) meters per second. That means they were only about 15 meters apart when the trajectory of this fiasco began. Even if she was keeping a straight line, not much time to react (especially since she was on the *wrong* side of the road).

If anything he probably veered to his left (toward the middle of the road) to avoid contact. But she being clueless and caught up in her moment there, backpedaled right into his path. If anything she's lucky she didn't get blindsided and knocked down with a full force hit, instead of a glancing blow from his forearm.

All said, he could have yelled a second or two earlier, and stutter stepped his way around (hopefully not leading to a collision). Nevertheless, she (1) definitely obstructed the way; (2) chose to make an issue of it with blog postings and facebook messages; (3) and the race director and blogger friends made the situation even worse/more infamous with the DQ and subsequent postings (and taking down of pictures/acusations).

Her being a female is completely irrelevant. She was entirely in the wrong in this situation there was nothing wrong with the way he handled it. Sometimes human beings make contact. Big deal. She should have forgotten about this within 5 minutes of it happening.

Third, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? It was (decidedly) incidental contact by someone who was protecting himself from a person blundering in his path.

If the guy was finishing a half-triathlon, I can easily understand his inability to shift direction on a dime. This reminds me of Derek Clayton, a rawther heavy trainer, who once ran into a tree. His quote was something like, "Yes, I saw it--I just couldn't get out of its way!"

Similarly, when Gerry Lindgren was training for the 1972 OT, he allegedly was up to 50 miles/day at one point. (Though I suspect those were "Gerry miles.") And he injured himself by running into a car.

When a *competitive* athlete (rather than a simple "participant") is in the last stages of a hard run, the kind of agility people are suggesting is out of the question. Watch where you're going, lady, and stay out of the competitors' way!

A DQ based on the clip I watched is an absolute injustice. And here I thought *my* generation (Baby Boomers) were the biggest whiners in the world. Well done, lady, ya outdid us!

While I don't condone what the dude did, if it was a guy that Mr. Cullen pushed in the back, would anyone care? Double standard.

How about a Boston Marathon showdown? Boylston Street can be a real #itch.

Can someone explain why she kept running backwards after the contact? She almost ran into the old man. Why didn't she run towards the fence by the cameraman. It was the shortest way to get out of traffic.

I think it is funny that people think that it is only Alison and/or a few friends defending her and Blair and/or a few of his friends defending him. I think a lot of people are posting on here and the ones that live the life that Alison lives, where it is all about you, think she did nothing wrong and Blair is at fault and the ones that actually watched the video and looked at all the evidence, including Alison's finishing picture, realize what Blair did wasn't all that bad.

I am surprised that not many people write about the fact that she kept walking backwards after being "punched, struck, etc" by Blair and almost backs into the old man. That and her finishing picture bother me as much as the actual incidence of her walking backwards on a race course and getting pushed away.

Seems like this thread has crystallized some deep seated grievances held by a portion of the LRC readership.
