Why should we? He wouldn't leave us alone for months when he insisted he was going to win this race and set the course record. He did this is repeated videos where he displayed an obnoxious disrespect for the difficulty of the race and the task he claimed he would conquer. Nah forget this guy. He deserves the disrespect.
Hopefully, David stepped away from social media and the influencer lifestyle for awhile. It was definitely messing with his mental health.
@rochehater Crazy thing about social media and YouTube is you do not need to consume any of the content. It seems like you have some unhealthy vested interest in this whole saga.
Step away man. Seems like you need therapy as much as David.
WRT feeling like crap, yea everybody feels like crap. Watch the race video of Hans - he apologizes if he dies of a heart attack (I think on the way up to Green Gate) because of how bad he feels. Adam Petermen nearly walked it in from Forest Hill and finished in like 23 hours after spending the first 2/3rds of the race around the top 10. I've seen people lay on cots for hours to regroup and then shuffle their way in.
I forget which podcast it was on YouTube - maybe not Freetrail but one of those - they were doing race predictions and one guy nailed it - his worry about David was if he's not leading by the halfway point he is likely to quit. Its his brand now.
The guy is undeniably smart about physiology and an incredible athlete. But he and Megan live inside this social media bubble that is not real life. I think its polluting his head and brain. He takes running way too seriously. He takes himself way too seriously. Its just running. People aren't on the edge of their seats following his every move and crying themselves to sleep if he doesn't do well. He has a very skewed sense of reality and his place in the world. He needs to get off social media, spend time with his family, run with other people, go out and be social, and ignore the digital world for a month.

It's strange that I also have heard him say multiple times that there was a 99% chance, he wasn't going to win the race and that someone would break the course record. Maybe not him, but someone. And everything had to go absolutely perfect for him to win the race. He gave props daily to the other guys that he thought could win and break the course record. Everyone wants to man to not have any confidence going into the race. This thread is probably top 5 dumbest threads ever on LR. Many of the you either have never watched or listened to his pod casts and video or just ignore some of the stuff he says. I don't love him or hate him but I respect what he's done the past year.
You know, in hindsight, I think David would have really struggled to even finish top 5 this year if he had run the whole thing. The field was spicy and I genuinely don't think he would have been able to hang with any of the guys in that cohort. I think he'd have had a shot at top 10 but looking back now, there's no way he breaks through the dudes in top 5.
Roche beat the 4th place finisher at Javelina last fall. Top 5 was not unreasonable.

Dan Green got 16th at WS100 just a couple weeks after his Cocodona 250 win. I think he got into WS last minute and he made the best of it. Unlike David who dropped the ball in the second when it got a little difficult. A 10 minute reset at an aidstation would probably have made all the difference but that was of course was not in the books for our narcissistic baby.

Amazing performance. Give it up to Dan Green. His story is what I'm talking about when I say DR is taking up all the oxygen in the room for other more interesting narratives in the scene that should be given more their due.
DR's whole strategy of getting fast also makes him fragile. In these races, you need to be anti-fragile. As Dan shows: it's only 100 miles, we race far further these days.
He did repeatedly say things like that, but he also repeatedly said or implied the opposite, that he could or would win. I mean, his theme was “shock the world.” What else could that mean besides he intended to win?
He should go into politics, honestly. He and his wife are masters at double speak.

Well said. He went Strava dark and started talking to a therapist. It’s a start. I hope he realizes all the backlash is self-inflicted and avoidable. If he takes some accountability and stops conning his athletes and listeners then I’m sure most of his critics will tone it down. He’s a weird guy with an eating disorder who struggles with anxiety and his place in the world. I would feel bad for him if he wasn’t such a con artist douche bag.

he puffs a lot of stuff. like his spreadsheet is locked in, he can run a sub 4 min mile, played college football, won't race if he coaches due to conflict of interests, and so on...

That's where I am since all I ever heard him say was that it was a moon shot with a 1% chance of winning. After Leadville and Javelina it was reasonable to think he had a 1% chance, especially after Walmsley dropped. Seems to me that "shock the world" and 1% chance go together. But there's no reasoning with the irrational. I would love to know the motivations of these blokes who hate Roche but consume his content then immediately pitch up on this site to criticise. Normal people can't be bothered with obsessively following athletes or politicos or journos that they hate. Self-hating poofs probably.

I find it interesting that people post all their stuff on social media to make a buck or two and then they are surprised when there is some backlash. This guy was posting outrageous stuff full of false science in order to sell his training and now it looks like his training didn't work that great on himself.

There’s a hundred page thread that details why people dislike him. It’s not our job to educate you, if you care to know then read up. But remember normal people don’t engage in such behaviors…
