They didn't "lose" in events they didn't compete in. Since he won at Tokyo he's lost every outdoor global championship since. A losing record at that level means he isnt amongst the very best in the event. They dominated in a way he hasn't - and not just at the Olympics. Moreover, they held the world records in the 1500 and/or the mile. He hasn't. He may be in the top 10 for the 1500/mile but that's about it. I put Elliott, Snell, Ryun in 66/67, Walker, Coe, Ovett, Cram, Morceli and above all El G ahead of him.
So all he had to do was to not compete in a global 1500 again after winning in Tokyo, since according to you it's better to duck the competition rather than competing and risking not to win?
The greats didn't duck anything. That is why they are recognised as great competitors. Another ****** stupid argument. Ingebrigtsen on the other hand has repeatedly lost when it matters most.

This 1000%, at this point I am certain Armstronglivs is a hobby jogger wannabe with absolutely no real social life outside of letsrun who desperately needs mentally health therapy. Mods can we finally just permaban him?
Yes, they've lost global 1500 finals for years in succession since only a single man in history has won the Olympics more than once. Who are these runners you're talking about specifically?

Why do you lash out like this? Does it make you feel better? Do you do it when you feel cornered?
It isn't possible to be cornered by stupidity - including yours. A fatuous comment, which was directed at what I had said, gets what it deserves.
How is being the "middle of the pack" the alternative to being the "greatest in history"? Where did I suggest that he should only aspire to the middle of the pack?
Another case of you lashing out. Why is this?
Where did I suggest that being middle of the pack is the (only) alternative to "greatest in history"?
Talking about stupid observations, why did you say that Aregawi wasn't among the best 3000m runners? He is the third fastest all time. Did you really not know this? Do you not know where you can look up this information?
So what. It wasn't a race of two competitors. Apart from Aregawi the best in the world weren't there. It wasn't like an Olympic or outdoor championship final. It didn't have that depth. That was my point.
So you didn't know that Aregawi was the third fastest 3000m runner all time when you said that he wasn't among the best? How can you judge the depth when you didn't know that the third fastest all time was running?

Top 10 all-time in the 1500m/Mile. OK.
In not his best event. That's some achievement.
In the 3000m/2 Miles he obviously is in the top 5, maybe number 1?
In the 5000m? No super fast time so far, but 3 global titles. Also top 10 all-time?
Combining all 3, what do you think he should be ranked all-time amongst middle and long distance runners? Already top 5?
So all he had to do was to not compete in a global 1500 again after winning in Tokyo, since according to you it's better to duck the competition rather than competing and risking not to win?
The greats didn't duck anything. That is why they are recognised as great competitors.
They often did: Coe and Ovett all the time. Also Morceli. Elliott and Snell quit at young age. Walker stopped running when confronted with a superior runner.

I absolutely love the guy, but putting him in the all-time top 5 when he has set precisely zero world records outdoors at the championship distances is getting ahead of ourselves. Four outdoor global golds and his off-distance WRs, especially at his age, are great accomplishments, but hardly unique in history. His best (if not only) path to gaining that high level is to break the WRs in both the 1500m and the 5000m and at win least two more global World Championship golds between 2025 and 2027, which would draw him level with El G and Gebreselassie at 4 WC golds, but still behind Bekele and Farah.
Coe has never won a global Gold in the 800m (has even lost two times at the Europeans). Just 1 Silver at the Europeans over 1500m (3 outdoor + 3 indoor Golds from Ingebrigtsen at age 24). 3000m PB 7:54 (7:17 for Ingebrigtsen), 5000m PB 14:06 (12:48 for Ingebrigtsen).
Selective statistics. That doesn't change anything I said above.
"Selective statistics"!!
Says the guy who all the time compares the weaker points in the career of his most beloved athlete with the strong points of the others.
Just facts which are presented to him. Coe's championship record is much worse than Ingebrigtsen's so far. He constantly ignores this fact - because he doesn't like it. He only brings the facts (mostly wrong) which support his view.
So all he had to do was to not compete in a global 1500 again after winning in Tokyo, since according to you it's better to duck the competition rather than competing and risking not to win?

Coe and Ovett ducked each other all the time. Another ******** ignorant argument from someone who claims to have followed athletics for decades. You never fail to fail.
He doesn't have to match those achievements to be the GOAT. He may have a unique combination.
Having achievements in a bunch of different events won't make him the greatest in history but a very good all-round athlete. The best specialists are better because of their level of achievement. In any case, he won't surpass Nurmi for all-round achievements. There are too many athletes today who are too good in their specialist events for them to be beaten in the big races by a good all-rounder, like Nurmi was.
You are confusing things again. All-round GOAT and specialist is not the same. As for not surpassing Nurmi? lol Do you want to compare the level of competition?

Differing with fans is a demonstration of sanity. It is largely absent on these threads.
You really are mentally ill. You think everyone with an opinion not the same as yours is a Jakob fan. And for some reason you are consumed with contempt for people who like Jakob. I am not a fan of Jakob's but I can see an incredible athlete achieving incredible results. And I don't need to attack his fans for that. Seek help.

So you didn't know that Aregawi was the third fastest 3000m runner all time when you said that he wasn't among the best? How can you judge the depth when you didn't know that the third fastest all time was running?
So where were the rest of the top-ten if the field had depth?
