No, because most people don't take pictures on instagram that seriously. Nobody gives a sh!t either way.
If no one cared why did they make one person’s criticism such a massive issue through homophobic attacks on the critics personal life? Were they hurt because they felt like Emma was a friend? There wouldn’t be a 30 page thread on LetsRun if they responded better or not at all.
Agreed. Even after Emma commented, yes people were agreeing with her but it hadn't escalated much at all until the NG fans started harrassing her and NG handled it like they did which led to her post on her own page which blew this up.
A simple "yeah you're right Emma we didn't think this through enough. This belonged on the artist's personal page where he can provide context as necessary, not on a running content page absent any said context. Sorry to anyone who is let down by this, we strive to do better in the future".
Not hard at all and this ends just a few hours after it started.
I’d argue that says a lot about New Gen’s audience.
Emma’s influence got it into the eyes of 1) Jordan Donnelly, OAC ‘s On correspondent
2) Justin Britton, a higher profile photographer in the track world
Both expressed distaste for the images, not the criticism.
These are the people who have leverage in the track world so does it really matter what New Gen’s high school fan boys(and girls) think about them at this point?
It’s too late…it happened the way it happened and most of the running community now knows how ugly this new gen camp and the people running it are if they didn’t know already.
this isn’t Emma gee’s fault…don’t even start that business
she allowed people to look more closely at some really ugly stuff
I think many people did have a problem with it but didn’t voice that opinion until Emma pointed it out.
Broke the classic Bystander effect if we want to relate it back to bullying
The only bullies are people like Emma. The photos that initially started this originally stupid thread are a complete non-issue that only someone looking to be angered or looking to hurt someone else could find objectionable.
For example, here is Disney's PG rated Max Keeble's Big Move showing a swirly
And here is ABC's (and later Disney's) hit children's show Boy Meets World showing a kid get stuffed in a locker (not sure if links will copy, if not its youtube watch?v=wlOISJw6eF0&ab_channel=PoliticallyIndecent and watch?v=9q2vrY6NsSQ&ab_channel=CapN%27Fearsome)

These are classic tropes that anyone but babies can understand as humorous.
The writing that was revealed on the other hand...that's when things took a turn for the worse.
Well
A) These are from 20+ years ago which is a different era completely in terms of what was socially acceptable. TV shows made homophobic and sexist jokes all the time back then too, is that next on their list? (Oh wait New Gen already did that too...)
B) The person giving the swirly is clearly identified as the bully/villain and the context is very clear
c) Even without all of that, of all the possibilities in the world why would this be what you want to emulate in the first place? There's no meaningful criticism or anything transformative here to modernize the topic. Its just pictures of kids shoving kids into lockers and toilet bowls.
Buddy your most recent example is from 2001. 20+ years ago.
Also a major issue taken from the photos was that both portrayed victims were a girl and the one included a boy putting his hands on her. Neither of these examples portray that
And it's not just about the photos, it's about how Ben Crawford and his "team" continue to show they are sexist, homophobic, disgusting people. It's as simple as that. There are so many other amazing creators in our sport that we can support. New Gen has no place in it.
I know the fanboys are gonna hate this post, but this is the opposite of good for the sport sorry !! This is what went down:
1) photographer posts 2 photoshoots in the past week from the camp:
A. Girl dunking another girls head in a toilet bowl
B. Boy shoving girl in locker by her hair
2) Emma Gee comments on post that the bullying themes are disappointing
3) every creator and camper(including the girls) starts going after Emma that she doesn’t understand art. Nikki says not you guys bullying Emma for calling you out on bullying lol
4) Original photographer starts commenting themes of “you must be familiar with disappointment since your parents were when you came out” “must be disappointed men don’t find you attractive” etc
5) emma posts all this to her story (still there) calling them out and New Gen deleted all of Emma and Nikki’s comments BUT leaves the photos up
Ben Crawford has always rubbed me the wrong way and he has never seemed professional in comments or podcasts but if you’re going to run a camp for teenagers to create content please teach them how to receive criticism and not use “art” as an excuse to hide behind when they present something that some people find problematic.
Also New Gen just did a shoot with Nikki which makes this extra weird?
Also creator is @ryderlee on insta
And Emma’s stories should be up for a few more hours @emma_gee1777
LRC note: Here are the photos the OP is referencing:
Seems like it was a profile written about him in March
This is beyond disgusting, I have no words other than that.
the blog also has these lovely quotes from A. Sahlman (1/14/23)- to be expected honestly.
Aaron Sahlman quotes. "The more you hoe, the more you know" "The ladies part their ways for me." "*mentions something he's gonna do*, so stay toooonnnnneedddddd" Arys- ‘Answer the question. What's your unpopular opinion, or do you just not have any thoughts?” Aaron--“I do not have any thoughts. I know I’m boring with the interview stuff, but I have no Idea. the funny thing is that I am actually trying.” Arys-“It’s okay just let the ideas flow” Aaron-“No thoughts flow anywhere in here” "I pulled one… NO… 3 girls. ” (I freakin lost it. How do you go from 1 to three. I feel like if you had more than one, you’d just know.)
we knew he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer but did you also know that he ran a race and "confessed that he was out of it because he was drugged up from being in the hospital all day. So, if you thought he was on something during one of his cross-races… He probably was" and "has had a whopping total of 4 concussions as of 1 week ago because he was using Snapchat while driving (He has a serious snap addiction). Such a loser. But hey, with the times he runs, he can get as many concussions as he pleases."
Wait, did anyone think people watched the newgen videos for some other reason than Cooper and Cole? Like was Ben Crawford dumb enough to think people cared what Ben Crawford's *artistic vision* was lol

Yes, my examples pulled from the children's network, which had ratings of PG (not even PG13!), are invalid because they are from all of twenty whole years ago.
Also, girls are just as capable and powerful as boys, so not sure why you decided to showcase your sexism
In the past couple of days this has also crossed my mind. Ben had access to 2 of the fastest runners in the NCAA that attend one of the most prestigious track universities and started making videos mid-Covid with them at the center.
Of course the popularity of the channel is going to skyrocket and have immediate success because everyone is social distancing/interacting via the internet. People wanted access to Cole Hocker was doing leading up to 6th in the Olympics at 20 yrs old! That doesn’t happen in the distance events for the US. IMO, it would’ve never taken off at another school with other kids.
I wonder what the actual reason Oregon pulled the plug on Ben. He alludes to the fact he was blurring/crossing lines the didn’t like, but was there an exact incident ?
Media from 20 years ago doesn’t exactly fly today regardless of ratings.
Im pretty sure upwards of 85% of sexual assault and abuse victims are female and almost 95% of offenders are male, but yeah call me sexist I’m just pointing out why people, particularly women, didn’t like the photos.
Aaron is a kid, so he's saying goofy stuff and the girl blogging is playing it up for fun. Let's not start saying mean stuff about kids. Let them be. The adults involved are the issue here.
