It seems some of the "normie" republicans today are simply getting themselves on the record or into the airwaves with some type of defense for Trump. It is nothing that they believe. But at this point, they don't want to be put in the Mitt Romney category even though they likely believe 100% of what he said.
Why take any political hits with the red cap crazies when you don't need to? Just let the law take care of Trump.

Trump's and Trump supporters problem is that he's on tape admitting to a crime. So that leaves his supporters with, in short, whataboutism.
Seeing a lot of posts that are whatboutism about Biden and Pence having documents they should not have had. Certainly that is a problem. Nobody should be defending their carelessness. But read the indictment and what Trump is charged with:
Counts 1-31: Willful Retention of National Defense Information Count 32: Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice Count 33: Withholding a Document or Record Count 34: Corruptly Concealing a Document or Record Count 35: Concealing a Document in a Federal Investigation Count 36: Scheme to Conceal Count 37: False Statements and Representations
Pence did not willfully retain, conceal, conspire, withhold, or make false statements. When the investigation into Biden ends, it will probably conclude that he didn't either. If it doesn't then he should be charged too.
As for Hillary, the Trump DOJ had four years to indict her. It didn't. That ship has sailed.
The only thing that can save the guy who hid national defense secrets in a shower is a judge who would need to be more corrupt than he is.
Are you saying that Trump didn’t do anything wrong (like he says) or that he did commit crimes but he shouldn’t be prosecuted because you feel others got away with crimes?
Based on the number of times he has been accused and later found innocent, I'm taking his word on this one.
Trump has been right about everything from from the start. A couple of years back I bet you were cheer-leading for the whole Russiagate hoax. Am I right?
Damned straight! That's some straight talk from a straight talker.
Frankly, I don't want to live in a country where Trump could be held accountable. And neither should anyone. At least no REAL American!
Now that my favorite president, Donald Trump, is facing a 37-count indictment from the feds, I join with my brothers and sisters in M.A.G.A., and with all sensible Republicans, in saying this: I’m not sure I want to live in a country where a former president can wave around classified documents he's not supposed to have and say, “This is secret information. Look at this,” and then be held accountable for his actions.
. . .
What kind of country holds a president accountable for alleged crimes a grand jury charges him with?
Or as Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn tweeted: “Where are the investigations against the Clintons and the Bidens? What about fairness? Two tiers of justice at work.”
TWO TIERS! One tier in which President Trump keeps getting indicted via both state and federal justice systems and another in which the people I don’t like keep getting not indicted via all the things Fox News tells me they did wrong.
It’s like America has become a banana republic, as long as you refuse to look up the definition of “banana republic.”
Regardless of the Trump indictment, it's clear this is all Biden's fault . . .
If your only defense is "but the other guy did..." then you are guilty. It doesn't matter what other people do, you (or Trump in this case) shouldn't do it also.

It does matter when there is a political bias, and the FBI and DOJ have been weaponized against political opponents, or haven't you been paying attention to what's really happening?

If you think that the DOJ was "weaponized" against a guy who took national security documents, moved them from place to place, lied about not having them, put them in a shower to conceal them, had people help him move them around, had people lie to the government about them, all while being given months and months to return them, with request after request...

That's right, Weaponized! And Commies! They're all a bunch of weaponized Commies!
While Trump is accused of charges under the Espionage Act , Trump is not charged with “espionage.”
Trump is not charged with “espionage.” The Espionage Act contains a wide range of charges, from spying to doing what Trump is accused of - willfully retaining national defense information. The willful retention offense (793e) does not require you to be a spy or disseminate to anyone.

Trump is accused of
Willful retention of national defense information: This charge, covering counts 1-31, only applies to Trump and is for allegedly storing 31 such documents at Mar-a-Lago. Conspiracy to obstruct justice: Trump and Nauta, along with others, are charged with conspiring to keep those documents from the grand jury.
Withholding a document or a record: Trump and Nauta are accused of misleading one of their attorneys by moving boxes of classified documents so the attorney could not find or introduce them to the grand jury.
Corruptly concealing a document or record: This pertains to the Trump and Nauta's alleged attempts to hide the boxes of classified documents from the attorney.
Concealing a document in a federal investigation: They are accused of hiding Trump's continued possession of those documents at Mar-a-Lago from the FBI and causing a false certificate to be submitted to the FBI.
Scheme to conceal: This is for the allegation that Trump and Nauta hid Trump's continued possession of those materials from the FBI and the grand jury.
False statements and representations: This count concerns statements that Trump allegedly caused another one of his attorneys to make to the FBI and grand jury in early June regarding the results of the search at Mar-a-Lago.
False statements and representations: This final count accuses Nauta of giving false answers during a voluntary interview with the FBI in late May.
Even long term Trump supporters who are honest, admit that this is serious bad stuff. Trump is in trouble (no they are not rhinos):
"Why should any of this matter? As Trump’s former attorney general, Barr’s willingness to speak out tells Republicans still capable of reason that the case is real, it’s serious, it cannot be brushed off and that the Justice Department didn’t engage in misconduct. Barr could break through the right-wing media bubble that shelters millions of Republicans from reality. They have convinced themselves that Trump is innocent and/or that this will all go away. Even after word of the indictment spread, Republican politicians continued to attack the Justice Department as if it, not Trump, were on trial. Barr is there to shake them by the lapels, effectively telling them, “No, he’s in big trouble because he did something very, very wrong.”
So she gets embarrassed in the 1500 and too frightened of Valby to start the 5k. All from an athlete with a nice NIL deal, so the don't like at a poor college kid canard doesn't hold water.

Hmm. Charged under the Espionage Act, but not charged with espionage.
