BAS has a history of both success and struggling with relationships with athletes. This happened at PSU and happened as soon as she got to UT. There could be more to a BAS decision than just indoor NCAA place....SEC results, behind-the-scenes actions, etc...

Beth Sullivan is the DIRECTOR of track and field. Apparently she believes that this new age "director" title means she not really on the hook to also be the head "coach" and her role is only to manage. She has only had ONE athlete score individually at the NCAA in her 8 years at Tennessee, men or women. Not only is she a distance coach but she also has another distance coach on staff. That's 1/3 of the staff devoted to distance and only one individual NCAA scorer in the distance events in 8 years? Can't recruit? Can't coach? Usually these head coaches get supervisory positions because they have sparkling coaching resumes with dozens of NCAA champions and Olympians in their event areas. Does not seem to be the case here. Most assistant coaches would be let go immediately if they went more than a year or two without an NCAA scorer in their event area, considering the competitiveness of the SEC and NCAA these days. Thank god for good assistants I guess.

Replace”NCAA” with “conference”, then yes that makes sense. If the Cupboard was bare upon hire, then 2 years should be enough to get the ball rolling and get a conference scorer and move the the needle, but ncaa nah not unless they cupboard was full and had scorers who are no longer scoring due to regression.

Huge hire on the community college scene. I have watched this guy race and train before. He was also around Wayne State University and he helped coach a lot of successful athletes there. I am surprised it took this long for him to be hired somewhere else. I cannot wait to see what he is able to do at this level. Give him a couple of years and this Macomb program will be a force. This team will learn how to work hard that is for sure.

Lake Forest College (D3, Midwest Conference) Head XC/TF is going to be on the market in early to mid may. Program is in the dumps, but has a single bright spot, they have the conference #1 womens 5k runner, who is a Covid junior (Sophmore-eligibility).

We are probably talking about different expectation levels. I am talking about hc expectations at top 10 ncaa teams. Not all the others. Tennessee wants to be one of those. Most are happy with conference level success. The big dogs are judged more on ncaa finishes. LSU, USC, Oregon, Texas, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Florida, etc. Conference meets are just warm-ups for those programs.
