What happened was Trump talked to the Secretary of NATO and they RE-agreed on something the US and NATO had never disagreed on in the first place -- to plan for continued expansion of NATO military presence in the Arctic region. That is something the Pentagon, NATO, UK, Canada, Norway and yes even Denmark have been working on since the 90s when the Pentagon determined (before everyone else did) that global warming was going to open up Arctic exploration and commercialization.
So yes, Trump seems to have backed down off his whacko Greenland ideas that probably every military officer and his few normal staff members warned him off, and we will now proceed with projects like joint American-UK-Canadian-Danish detection and missile sites throughout northern Canada, Greenland, and Iceland (probably Alaska too). You know, stuff that makes sense.
