They are simply being transferred from the borrowing students to the non-borrowing taxpayers. We forgave several hundred billion more than that in PPP loans. Would you leverage the same criticism there? Should businesses have had to pay those back instead of passing the buck to you, Sally Vix, the average American tax payer?
That is how our economy currently functions. Ever increasing debt. Economists disagree on whether it's sustainable and for how long. It's politically impossible to increase taxes, and politically difficult to cut spending, so here we are.

I can play that game too. Did you or did you not believe Trump when he said he was going to fix the border and that it was never more secure than when he was POTUS? Biden killed 2 birds with one stone - acknowledged there is a border issue (validated voter concerns) AND called the R's bluff on fixing it (exposed that only Ds are really willing to fix any problems in our country).

Okay fine I agree. I don't know how big of a catastrophe the debt load is. Numbers too complex for my tiny brain so I will now move the goalposts. What I said above is that it's basically impossible to raise taxes and also very hard to cut spending. I still stand by that statement, and I think when we look into raising taxes or cutting spending, the average American worker has less lobbying power than basically any other group that could be affected, be it the military or corporate sector.
So instead of increasing taxes on the rich, we will cut spending on Medicare, increase the retirement age, or tighten the restrictions on food stamps. So I'm much happier to see the burden of debt lifted off of regular people and transferred to taxes, the majority of which already come from high earners who live plush lives in the nicest country on the planet.
(although to your point, the people with high debt loads are often those with degrees and earning potential to pay them off and I would much like to see targeted loan forgiveness for those in extreme debt, no degree, and low earning potential who never should have gone to college in the first place).
On another note, I appreciate you making a serious point. It's better than a Gary meme or whatever rehash of Fox News Adult feels like putting out on any given day.
