I don't even subscribe to Ben is Running but his god awful thumbnails keep coming up in my recommended because I watch other channels. It's so annoying that there's barely any honest shoe tubers these days because none of them actually want to get on the bad side of brands who give them free gear. Really pathetic. I'd love to hear of any recommendations for shoe tubers who are actually critical of current shoes.
Jog on Crago from Perth seems to be the only one i've found who's not afraid to take a dump on awful shoes.
Ben Parkes doesn't do tonnes of shoe reviews but when he does he points out that he has paid for them with his own money and so will give it an honest review. As such, he has been very critical of some brands/shoes that I've seen. I seem to remember him absolutely detesting the Adidas Boston's
Yowana also buys the shoes he reviews and is a prolific shoe reviewer.
I’m convinced his new abs obsession comes from that photo someone posted of all the bpn bros shirtless and bloberg was the only one without them. Probably Nick himself told bloberg to shape up or else
Well, Welsh Runner’s latest masterpiece was as dull as dishwater. Helped me get a power nap in though. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but crikey…I can’t stay awake through that drivel. He’s just hasn’t got the personality to make it work, and of course we all know the ‘all in’ rubbish is likely to end in injury, a DNS or a jog in at the finish of Berlin as he starts of too fast.
He’s so tedious. It always amazes me how him and his missus do all these races / have all the new gear, despite seemingly neither of them working, spending all day on social media / making YouTube videos, and on top of that having to bring up (and pay for) four kids. Benefits Britain wins again!
I see Tattle life pond life with some weird personal vendetta against the Welsh runner have made it to let's run.
I don't get why people think it's ok to rattle the personal lives of running influencers. Don't like it, don't watch it... comment you don't like it . But the personal stuff annoys me, especially when you know they read this thread. You've got to be one evil person for that.
I enjoyed the recent workout vid. Pretty honest session. He goes a little ott and preachy for me sometimes, but there honest hard sessions in there.
I get the injury comments , but I also don't think they're fair at times. Decent runner .

Imagine explaining to your kids one day that your hobby was slagging off strangers on Tattle. “Mum, what did you do for fun?”
“I hated successful people on the internet, sweetheart.“

Yowana makes a documentary about each shoe he reviews.
Once in awhile he'll go on a great rant though. Can't remember the episode, but he went off about cross country kids talking trash to him & it was pretty epic.

I'll preface this by agreeing that personal lives should be left out. However, I disagree on the enjoyment element to his recent workout videos. His 'all in' - many hours spent coming up with that - series so far is just 20 min workout videos which are pretty boring. There are no insights or learnings from the workouts so I am left watching a long, uninteresting session. Contrast him with FOD Runner - neither are overly charismatic but FOD has created a much more engaging channel. Plus it is hard to be invested in a channel/runner that goes ghost when injured. It feels disingenuous as a viewer to have someone only upload when things are good.
That's fine and it's subjective. Agree on it being weird when he goes missing,he should tackle when he's injured. It happens to all of us and not putting anything on the channel because of an injury makes it disjointed. Its slightly Philly esque , both seem to get overly upset by injury. As someone dealing with over 12 months of chronic problems I get it's difficult, but if it's affecting you to the point of shutdown, or videos getting upset and "I didn't want to make this video"you need a perspective change. It's simply part of running.
Both should use them as opportunities to tackle rehab with other runners.
I disagree on the content, as the series goes on you can see the paces change, I enjoy it. I guess that's the subjective piece. You don't have to like it , not everyone will.
I agree it’s subjective and hope he hits his goals – I’ve nothing against him. That said, and I would be interested in others' views, I think YouTube is a poor medium for communicating training blocks. Visuals add little to understanding the details, whereas podcasts (e.g. Inside Running) allow deeper explanation, discussion, and critique (calling each other out). By contrast, most YouTubers, like the Welsh Runner, struggle to clearly explain or reflect on their training and instead just 'show it'.
Another drawback of YouTube is the marketing element: it benefits finances but can hinder progression. For example, Ben Felton might be further along if he focused on consistent, structured training rather than frequent races and camps, which have so far resulted in stagnation or regression.
I think seeing Connor Mantz, for example, ripping 6 miles around Central Park is very different to seeing Welsh Runner running around some estate in Wales (or wherever it is) and chatting random stuff. The chat is just not interesting or engaging. I don’t think this is a personal attack - far from it. As I said, I’m sure he’s a nice guy and I also hope he gets his goal, but honestly I don’t think he will. He is not listening to his coach either; he is a coach himself, and I wonder what he thinks if his clients basically ignore him, push the pace, do longer reps, etc. I wish him no harm either, but let’s be honest, there are far better channels out there. None of this is a personal attack but it is an opinion on a running channel, for someone who is choosing to put himself out there, although admittedly only when things are going well
