Laz planned to stay until it was over. So if he left, it was over with no chance they could revive the whole thing a little later. The miles per day kept increasing, and yet Laz saw RY use all 24 hours sans rest to try to maintain the daily mileage just once. It would require 2 more weeks of that. Game over. Laz might also know that the toe is too injured to continue on even walking. If Laz took the time and effort to use a week of his life to thwart this foolish endeavor, no chance he left prematurely with RY having any sliver of a chance to continue. Game over. Job done.

1) We've had two guys on the ground. Peter Sagan biked down, took a photo of the car, was nearly captured but got away. Another poster, meriyab(?), also approached the enemy but they had left and burnt down all evidence when he arrived.

2) Nobody knows what the criminal is up to yet.

More likely this guy was spoiled as a child than abused. Not necessarily materially, but the kind of kid that is a jerk to other kids and adults , wastes everyones time and energy , yet the parent or parents make excuses for him and blames everyone else.

Rob Young offers a great lesson to children and parents. I always tell my young kids that there are many ways to spoil a child and they really don't want any of them, or else they might become the kind of guy who would cheat in a race across the U.S., and live in Infamy forever.

Agreed! Although, in the grand scheme of life, coddling a child is tantamount to abuse in the LONG RUN (pun intended) as it creates an environment where the future adult isn't able to deal with with reality, or the real world in a reasonable fashion.
