Its not even a discussion even with how bad the Badgers have been the last two years. They would still mop the floor with the WIAC schools/Marquette/UW Milwaukee.

On what basis is Milwaukee better than Marquette? Milwaukee has won ZERO horizon league championships in cross country since joining the league in 1994. Thats 24 years, 48 attempts between the 2 genders, and ZERO, count em, ZERO wins... in the horizon league, not the Big East.
In the last 20 years of the Great Lakes Regional, Milwaukee has placed inside the top 20 only 7 times, with a top finish of 14th... Marquette has never placed above 20th place, and there top finish is 8th.
If you are referring to the track side of things, Milwaukee hasn't won a men's track title in 3 years or a women's title in 6 years. In the past 3 years, Marquette has won 2 men's and 4 women's big east track titles.
They should change Milwaukee from the Panthers to the Pussies.

Thats all you've got? Congrats on making it to nationals 1/3 years after making it for what 40 years in a row. You guys aren't doing a lot better than Milwaukee. You have 2 great Australian runners and nothing else to show for all the money and resources you have. Even Pete Corfeld could do more with the talent that gets brought into Madison than what Mick Byrne and Gavin Kennedy are doing. The badgers are embarrassing.
Love how aggressive Milwaukee and Marquette fans get. Going after the Badgers is a new low. Milwaukee and Marquette are worthless programs, they are the laughing stock of Wisconsin. The absolute best teams Milwaukee and Marquette have ever put together wouldn’t even be able to beat the Badgers during a down year. More than half the WIAC teams can beat both teams. This list is literally the most pointless thing I’ve ever seen. Comparing XC times without denoting what course they were on doesn’t make any sense.
How is it pointless? They all essentially run on the same course. I modified it so there wasn't crap all over for dates/locations. It takes half a brain to look and compare the relative times of the best runners at each school. Also, not every school has an accessible Top 20 List. My guess is UWL's is surprisingly weak, hence why they don't have it on their website like the majority of WIAC websites. No chance they don't actually have one. Tell me why every college I go to has a top 20 list somewhere for athletes to look at?
5 out of 8 schools isn't bad for a standard viewing. Top 10 lists for track would be much better. Unfortunately, those aren't so accessible.

Literally no one here understands why you are hung up about cross country times. The reason cross country times do not matter is because every course has a different lay out and also, they are all different lengths.
For example, Josh Schraeder from UWL ran 27:27 at Griak and 23:49 at the Regional meet. You really expect me to believe that Josh improved his fitness by nearly 4 minutes in 7 weeks? I'd say its more reasonable that he was able to improve by as much as 90 seconds. Figure since it was hot at Griak and its a hard course, his time was slowed down by a minute. That other 90 seconds gives him a reasonable fitness guesstimate of 25 flat. So I'd be willing to say the regional course was as much as 400 meters short.
Another example, Tim Nelson ran 13:57 for 5k the spring before he ran his xc "8k" pr of 23:54. Do you really believe Walker Rynes, Zach Lee, Josh Schraeder, or anyone else who passed his pr at the regional meet that day could have beaten Nelson with 5k pr's that are 30 seconds slower than him?
Final example, Edward Cheserek's college xc "8k" pr was 23:06 at the 2015 Pac 12 xc championships. Based on the lists of pr's you copied and pasted, Darin Lau would have finished as Colorado's (They finished 2nd at nationals that year) 3rd man and 7th place overall with his 23:22, beating Ammar Moussa, Joe Rosa, Grant Fisher, Morgan Pearson, Matt Maton, Colby Gilbert, Jim Rosa, Jake Leingang and many more. Now, I think Darin Lau is a great runner, I think he should have gone DI, but Darin's 5k pr is 55 seconds slower than Ches. You really think he could have finished within 15 seconds of him with an extra 3k of racing added on?
Xc is about place, not time. If you want to hold a debate on top 10 school honor rolls, thats more interesting to us because we know all the tracks are certified lengths and surfaces.

Sorry, you don’t get extra points for getting worse recruits. Having one national champion actually IS a lot better than Milwaukee. If the Badgers are embarrassing then I don’t even want to know what that makes the Milwaukee schools...
Many people seem to share that mentality. They are grasping for straws when trying to find some way to compare schools that are not as competitive as others. If the teams improved, they would get better recruits so it is really a circular argument. "My team is better than your team because we get crappy recruits who improve more than yours because our guys were really slow in high school." I don't know why Marquette isn't better. UW Milwaukee is a relative unknown even within the Wisconsin boundaries but Marquette is at least known outside of the state. It is sad that they are competitive at track because it just shows how weak their conference is compared to the Big Ten.

Seriously, congrats to Marquette and UW Milwaukee on never making NCAA’s. Yeah the Badgers have been bad the last couple years but still light years beyond Marquette and UW Milwaukee even in there darkest hours.
Plus Madison is so much better then Milwaukee as a city.

Marquette and Milwaukee had 14 guys compete at the meet but not one of those 14 would have made the badgers’ varsity. Oh, McDonald redshirted last year so add him to the mix this fall. Take an all star team comprised of Marquette, Milwaukee, and every other one the dozens of colleges in the state and the all star team will always lose and probably be completely shut out.
Agreed brah. The Badgers are way better and would smoke the doors off an all star Wisconsin squad. Also if they can get Olin healthy they will be even tougher.
Gessner should be good for top 25 at nationals. Hirsch is a one speed guy making him perfect for 10k. I don't see Peters ever being a top D1 runner. His track times suck. I wonder if he had one great season of xc never to be heard from again.
Finn Gessner has a long way to go before getting top 25 at nationals. I’d look to the older Badgers to give them a chance this year when natties are in mad town.

Look, I'm not going to say any team in the state could beat the Badgers, they're just on another level when it comes to recruiting and resources (notice I don't say coaching; I'm pretty sure there's at least a handful of WIAC coaches better than Mick Byrne). However, an all-star team of WIAC runners would give the Badgers a run for their money. That doesn't really mean anything, but if you're going to say the Badgers would perfect score against them...probably not the case.
When I was in school, Lamere, Thorson, Carpenter, Cieselski, Jenkins, Mugan, Lau, and I'm sure I'm missing some from Marquette/Milwaukee would have formed a pretty good D1 team. Once again, doesn't mean anything, but just to refute your claim I had to go there.
Maybe now a WIAC all star team would show pretty well but there would have easily been years when Schumacher was the coach that the best WIAC runner wouldn’t even be in the Badgers top 10. In 2006 they left D-1 all Americans off the team that won Nationals.
I agree with you that now they can barely even field a seven man team. Gavin and Mick are horrendous coaches or at a minimum can’t keep people healthy.
Wisconsin has their worst performance in years but they still put all 7 ahead of the other 2 crappy Milwaukee teams head to head. The WIAC? Wisconsin had 6 guys run faster in 5k than any WIAC guy so yes an all star team would have been outscored bybWisconsin’s perfect 15 points. McDonald redshirted so this year, they would be lapping the field. Do wiac fans just not believe track times. Those stupid short courses in xc don’t count. You have to compare equivalent track times.
