In any case, 7:35 is nasty. The 4x800 being an official event has launched it back into the stratosphere in terms of relevance. Willing to bet 7:28 gets broken by a California team within the next few years.
The 4x800 being run so often now also puts into context how insane 7:28 run in the early 2010s was. Just insane. I think that team had two guys running 1:50 flat in the open.
Personally, 2015-2017 era of running > Newberry park era. Sure Newberry park era was faster by a margin, but I don’t think it compares to guys like Teare, Grijalva, Herrera, Bolger, Vernau, Rocha, Tamango- that’s a generational run imo. They’re like the prime Lakers (like Kobe and Shaq) or prime Lebron
Living up to my name (CVC=Coast View Conference), feel I need to throw in Dunne and the Dana Hills pair of Ogden and Coppi (now a pro trail runner), even if they didn't win any state titles. That 2016 APU MOC Mile is still one of the greatest races in state history imo, three guys running 4:04 in the same race was insane back then
I hope Walt Lange never retires! Most successful HS distance coach in CA history. Same school since the early 1970s, a no frills approach to coaching, and absolutely zero ego. He's a John Wooden type coach; simply one of the all-time best. Go Jesuit!

Wow. 50+ as a head coach at the same school. That's incredible. That's an entire lifetime for some. I wonder how old he is now and how much longer he plans on sticking with it
The numbers are mind-boggling for the legendary Jesuit High School cross country coach: Nine State titles, 29 section titles, and 46 league championships.
He did coach parents of Jesuit alumni and current Jesuit athletes. Isaac Abbott’s dad was coached by Lange in the 80s or 90s (don’t remember) and he was an all state runner. He’s also the announcer for the Dublin Distance Fiesta.
Ironically enough, a lot of the people who help out with the Dublin Distance Fiesta are parents of current Jesuit athletes. Which is also ironic considering Jesuit and Dublin are in completely different sections
Mattheo LaCasia - Woodside, CCS, 47.22 for 400m and 21.65 for 200m, breaking two school records that were set in the 1980s. Seemingly it's his first season too, so raw talent (unless he transferred from another school)
As someone who grew up on Woodside Rd and who's father coaches there, this is really cool to see. Glad to see more running talents come out to the track

Yep, first year. Not a transfer, came out from soccer. I talked to him after the race. Guy is pure, raw talent. Once in a decade type stuff. I hope a college program out there locks this guy down because he has the potential to be great.
His 47.22 was insane. Has to have been a negative split. Just so, so, so, so strong that last 150. Fell apart the last 50 but that didn't stop him.
He's 84. Walt is great and one of the best to ever do it but his team is going through the injuries this year. Proves that everyone goes through it some years.
Jesuit has gotten crushed with injuries…Alberts is the only one staying afloat right now. Ogilvie nowhere to be found, Hoferer has struggled and Jakary with minor setbacks, and I have no idea what is going on with Abbott after his 8:57. Hopefully they get rolling again for the postseason.
