Of course she could lose, but Hedengren is obviously the prohibitive favorite now. Fully healthy and just a perfect season so far.

I don’t love making extreme declarations in the moment but this run has to be on the short list of greatest HS performances ever.

FWIW re: Addy Ritz: she is a great runner. But her national title last year isn’t a standard I will continue to measure her against. A sloppy NXN always produces odd results and I’m not sure that result would have occurred on a fairer day. Shes great thoufh.

Shoutout to Ella Hagen from the Southwest. 4th today. Very, very underrated runner by most despite being 10th at NXN last year. But this is her THIRD year qualifying for NXN as an individual. How many people in NXN history can that even be said about? Genuinely curious- has to be a short list.

Both Blade and Ritz coasted today. These are qualifying races for them not championships.

Hedengren will still be favorite at NXN.

These times are insane for Mt. Sac. If their 5 runner even has a slightly better than average day at nxn, they're going to win the whole thing. Tbh they might win if she doesnt.

Its going to be a super interesting race if she decides to make it a hot pace right from the gun like she did today. I wonder how many girls will try to go with her? Engelhardt, Blade, Ritzenhein surely. Would any of Huyler, Rodriguez, Ferebee etc., go with her?

If Hedengren takes it out fast at NXN, Engelhardt, Blade, and Ferebee would probably go with her.

Ritzenhein, Huyler, and Rodriguez wouldn't. It's not how they run. They are more conservative in the first part of a race.

Wrong. CIF SS finals is a championship. And go look at the splits. She was leading by a lot at the mile and then died and got rolled at the end.

Mt SAC is now less difficult but a little longer.

I agree with Redmau5. Trabuco Hills has a good shot to win NXN.

Wrong. When you're one of the best in the country a minor meet like CIF SS is not important.

Speed rating has nothing to do with time. It's the gap between the mid pack and the leader. Hutchins 15:58 is irrelevant, but Hedengren should indeed get a high number, as she gapped a high quality field.

Yeah but it was 100 degrees at desert twilight versus near perfect weather today - still should be an insane speed rating though

Just watched the full race on YouTube. Ritz definitely did not coast todays race. She looked even more tired than Jane at the finish line. I still wouldn’t count her out at the national championship though.

If Addy wasn't chilling, why would you ecpect gap to be less at NXN?

Because this will be Addy’s 3rd year running at NXN, and she knows the strategy behind the course and how to run in the mud at Glendoveer. And she seems to always rise to the occasion at NXN, specifically.
