If you mean about Nurmi I would say that he was a pioneer. -I don’t think it’s fair to judge him against more modern athletes. So I wouldn’t have him on my list at all. But on the list of admirable pioneers -sure…

So, where is your time limit? The 1920s are too long ago to be compared to today. For Herb Elliott in the late 1950s/early 1960s you try to value his times in comparison of today (tracks and so on). That's OK, for sure a 3:35.6 in 1960 is worth more than a 3:35.6 today.

But compared to the era, Nurmi is amongst the very best.

I’m not here to judge other posters -not Armstronglivs, not you. But I got dragged into this because there were some concrete accusations (by yoyoc I believe) against Armstronglivs I felt were unfair.

I don’t know what your goal is here in this thread, and I wonder if you know yourself (and I don’t know if you are behind some of the other current handles here):

1. Do you try to bully Armstronglivs to leave the forum?
2. Do you try to convince him by repeatedly stating facts and arguments?

3. Do you try to convince people like me, and turn us against Armstronglivs?

4. Do you act out (only) because of frustration?

5. Or is it a combination of all above?

Usually I’ve got some empathy for other people’s need and situation, but since I’m not irritated on Armstronglivs myself, it’s hard to emphasise… (Ok, he often says some sarcastic things about Jakob fans like me, and also about doping apologists, again maybe like me, but I’m not offended at all -I think it’s funny).

My question to you is: How is your eventual strategy working for you? And if you are frustrated -is there some adjustments you can do to better it (skipping the “dumb” thing or something alike..?).

I think I draw the line somewhere after Nurmi, but before WW2…
