So many people have these takes, unironically. They think that any bum can just really want to win, and "go for it" with their strong kick and they will win.
This. It is such a ridiculous take.
Do these 16:30 5k runners just "go for it" and "run on the shoulder" of the 16:00 leader in their local race, when there are five other 16:30 guys racing for #2 and #3. Maybe, but their livelihood isn't impact by whether or not they are top-3.
Welteje ran on the shoulder of kipyegon and got 2nd as a result.

So? Someone win the lottery every week, doesn't mean its the most reliable way to earn money. If anything that shows that it could end bad for Hassan to be second pacer for Welteje.

My money was actually on Brimin in '12 only that he fell.
He is an Olympic and World Champion too
And had a long run for home that put Kemboi to shame a few times
Remember he was a world champion before Kemboi stopping him in 07, got some medals too
was also .01 off Shaheen's WR
You're right on Kemboi's excellent kick though
I think the only one who matched it was Kipruto
Till the gods did him in for his pride and showboatimg
I'm sure he winces everytime El-Bakkali wins 😆
Yeah 07 was the moment for him. Girma did beat El B in 19 let’s remember. This for my money is maybe the most lethal kick in a steeplechase and maybe any race. Ovett who had a ferocious kick himself is giggling with glee and the stadium is floored:

I think Hassan overextended herself the last 200 of the 10k, and tried to readjust for the 1500 but ended up being too conservative. Don’t think even being on Faiths shoulder with 400m to go would’ve allowed her to win, but giving a 0.8 gap to Welteji made the silver that much more difficult to attain.

Of course this is correct! Anybody who thinks Hassan was in an ideal spot with 500 to go does not know much about racing. Sure, woulda, shoulda, coulda, but that’s what the boards are all about.

Being near the front is a proven strategy when the pace is slow. Or fast.
Especially with kipyegon in the race. 2022 top 2 at 800 finished in the top 2. 2021, top 3 at 800 finished top 3. 2019, Hassan and kipyego led the way. 2017 Simpson placed herself in 3rd after 800 for a surprise silver. In 2016 there was Centro as a prime example. If you want to get top two in the global 1500, place yourself up front. In recent times, Nobody comes from way back late to place top 2 in the 1500. And not hassan.

2017 Hassan actually tried the same thing she did today, was 12th after 800, moved all the way to 1st, and faded to 5th. Kipyegon stayed in 2nd for first 1200 and won. Simpson stayed on kipyegons shoulder the whole time and got silver. Hassan has a history of poor tactics hurting her finishing place.
Didn’t like the disclosures by Burgin on his injury struggles. 3 days a week of running like Giles’ 25 mpw - it’s hard for me to see surviving the rounds at such a training disadvantage. He’s talented and maybe can Buck the odds, but I think the semi is gonna be nervy.
Man, Kemboi vs Bakkali in their primes would be legendary. Hard to choose.
Not sure if anyone gave kudos to Kibiwott, but that dude fell either on the last lap or just before and still got bronze while heckling his teammate in 4th. Pretty fun.

Exactly correct all these woulda, coulda, shudda posts. The results are locked in, everyone needs to move on and figure out a way to beat FK in Paris or at least not let her control the outcome from the 1st to the last step.

Unless Faith decides to have another baby, I think they all should be thinking about other distances if they want to win gold in Paris. This may even be true of the 5000. Let’s see.

Surprises me at the poor tactics across most distance races in this champs. Athletes in great form , who know the shape they are in, and their strengths, running the races dictated by others and coming up short. No more so than the 800m, the best tactician yesterday was Arop
It's obvious, but since you are either playing dumb or just dumb...
Kipyegon is many, many seconds faster than Hassan this year. 3:49 to 3:56. That is another planet. Do you understand how far apart they are?
Meanwhile, among all remaining competitors Hassan is very competitive. As we just saw.
What is she going to do to "take the race to Kipyegon?" Nothing, except to serve as a free pacer to all of the other also-rans.
She can (and did) race for a medal. Picture the race without Kipyegon in it, any any sensible person will agree Hassan ran very well.
Get it?
To say Hassan should have aimed to beat Kipyegon is like saying Nick Symmonds was too far behind David Rudisha at the bell in London 2012. Simply clueless take.

You got it. Lots of weird takes on this thread. If it's so easy, these posters should show is how it's done.
Not sure what's going on with Lewis Johnson but he's had a few cringy interviews at this meet. Just had another one.
LJ is just so consistently painfully *awful* it's pretty amazing. The entire broadcast would be about 25% better if they would just give him a payout and convince him to take a merciful early retirement.
He is. I picked him to win but didn't think it would be this easy. Only peak Ezekiel Kemboi and Conseslus Kipruto (also great racers) would've competed with that last lap. Conseslus beat Girma whilst nursing an injury and beat El Bakkali with one shoe.
