Tom “Tinman” Schwartz and Drew Hunter/Tinman Elite have parted ways

All who feel Tinman was wronged should contact Adidas and let them know we won't be buying their product because of Drew and Co.

Don't know if we need to slander Tom Schwartz here. One can connect the dots here. Clearly, the breakdown of the relationship here was over personal differences and not his coaching philosophy/training. He's had a lot of success as a remote/online coach. Again, that cuts out personal conflicts that might arise when being around a person a lot. This might be the better model for him and his family instead of pursuing an intensive in-person coaching role like taking the reins of a high school or college team. It seems like politics of all sorts got involved here unnecessarily.

All the videos/interviews and podcasts I have watched and listened to I can say he seems extremely arrogant and pretentious with his knowledge of sports science. He seems smart, but a coach doesn't need to explain all the science and what not. Just give someone a schedule and be nice to them, answer any questions they have. Not hard.

Pretty evident you have never been a coach or part of this team. I think a professional athlete can handle running an easy long run on their own or with their teammates.

It's evident you don't know anything about the coach-professional athlete relationship. It's not a friendship. It's a professional relationship. You complaining about Drew and everyone else in the TME group about sacking Tom after all these years and blah blah blah shows you know nothing. The coach-athlete relationship doesn't evolve to friendship after 'x' years.

You complain about Tom not getting a cut of the merch sales or use of the Tinman name. Your husband is a coach, not a marketing whiz. He should've hired someone to write up a contract for the use of the Tinman name from the very beginning.

You made some mistakes and so did the TME boys. Firing someone over the phone is pretty lame. But please stop acting like Tom and your family are victims, he's made a lot of money from coaching. This isn't the first time a group of injured runners let their coach go and it won't be the last.

I admit my ignorance, have any of them run the Olympic standard to date in their event? Hunter, Parsons, Gusman? How close have they come? It's fairly predictive that this group will splinter and disintegrate sometime between now and the end of the year, especially when few to none will go on to Tokyo. They were able to spin away from being no-shows at Doha, but they're probably on a slippery slope now and that house of cards looks susceptible to any little gust at this point. There's at least a minority contingent who voted under duress to get rid of a coach who helped them run better than they ever have and who will grow increasingly disillusioned as their performances slide and their teammates' performances slide and discontent grows and looks to assign blame.

I think his coaching could be part of the dispute in addition to his personality. Based on this thread, it seems like he's giving TME and hobbyjoggers pretty similar training. Maybe they were convinced by Leslie that they would be better off with a more enhanced training program. They did at least mention that Tinman was too busy to give them the attention they felt they needed.

Notably, and I think classlessly, both Joan Hunter (heretofore, always classy) and "Tinman Elite" stick to the name, Schwarz, rather than calling him Tinman. He should use legal action to keep his name.

Any IP / Copyright lawyers want to chime in on the feasibility of this?

I'm pretty sure Drew is the closest with a 13:17 5k. I agree that they'll look pretty pathetic if no one from TME qualifies for the Olympics.

None of them so far. Most likely to get it soon is Drew, but even if he gets it there's no way he's coming top 3 at a stacked US trials.

I hope all involved can resolve this amicably and quickly. I thank them for their efforts and wish them well.

TME had a good thing going. Good overall but perhaps not great or ideal for high level racing aspirations.

Overall it seems like they were elite but not top tier professional (in running and other endeavors). And perhaps elite only at the half ironman level. But that for me is part of their appeal: an eclectic group of highly talented people trying to make it to the top.

Tinman was a poster here on this board 15 or more years ago until he got sick of the attacks by the anonymous posters. He actually posted some good stuff back in the day.

Drew has never lived up to his contract, I'm sure Adidas regrets it and the rest of that group are nobodies. I couldn't name one of them and for good reason.
