Where do any of these people go? They're one injury away from the dole queue.
Ben gets sent to Japan to run in the new shoe. 4 or 5 days of work for a video with about 10k views. He'd be better off working the checkouts in Asda.
It all sounds great, getting free stuff and all that but getting free shoes doesn't pay the bills, give you a pension, provide holiday or sick pay does it?
What is the future? I would be very worried if I was some of these guys because I guarantee they haven't a plan apart from run as much as possible for the likes
Parking personal opinions for just a moment.
I’ve worked in the industry for over 10 years and I’d predict that Ben earns anywhere from 100-200k a year currently.
It doesn’t always come down to followers but how they monetise, whilst Ben is missing quite a few potential income streams, he’s busy and adrove enough to quite easily hit 100k and beyond a year. I know of running creators hitting that, that are way less active and on the scene that Ben is.
Grifter - somewhat.
Earning well - somewhat.
honestly if hes making 100k good for him and im impressed. i really didnt think these youtubers would be making that high of an income. if its closer to 200k then im mind blown lol. since you seem to be in the know, what do you think the breakout is of how ben is getting 100k+. kofuzi has disclosed his youtube adsense revenue the past few years and it seems to be $30-40k i believe on average. solid money just for making videos, but obviously a lower amount in general compared to many regular jobs. i acknowledge the rest of the $$$ likely comes from sponsorship deals...so ben is presumably making 60-100k in sponsors? if so that is insane to me, i just find it hard to believe companies are paying him that much to plug their product or have him review something...but props to the guy for getting his bag and he's winning at life if he's making this much cash simply from being a running influencer.
i do agree its probably not the most stable job and like the salty poster pointed out, no pension or benefits, etc...but if they are making 100k-200k and get to run as their 'job', then i'm sure they feel good about it even if it won't last forever. i bet editing and other aspects of having to be a full time youtuber are annoying and not as glamorous as it seems, but for someone like ben i bet he is way happier that he can live off this (even if temporary) to get to run and film himself rather than have to work a typical job
where does BenIsBegging go in the next 2yrs? i cant bear to watch his dire content. his rented 1 bed house is a dump not big enough to swing a cat in yet alone set up a Zwift bike, the blokes never done a bike sesh in the gym yet as soon as he gets a freebie, hes the next Lance Armstrong.
boring vids of him training to hard, talking like hes a scientist when hes a coffee maker. the parkrun and club races used to be ok to watch. seeing him beg for free kit and go on pointless trips with other scavenegers to get some free shoes he will never wear again - nahhhhhh. always pleasing to see him do another marathon build up and fail when it counts
Yet another comment from you about Ben...you sound a bit obsessed with him to be honest. Maybe find another youtuber to watch? I watched his latest video and it was actually quite interesting. As someone who also found the zwift FTP test unbearable, it was good to see him going through absolute hell and coming out with a decent FTP result. I'd rather see him do that than some random marathon session. You clearly don't enjoy his videos so you'd do well to remember that noone is forcing you to watch them?
Epic new floberg video! Dude seems to have developed an eating disorder of sorts. Coupled with his chronic habit of overtraining himself this surely will be great. Honestly I just feel bad for him at this point.

BIR has a bigger problem that all of his PB's have come off the back of trips to Iten, so now if he wants to ever PB again he has to keep going back, lord knows he has a massive gap to close if he wants to get back to that shape without altitude assistance
I have to hand it to floberg, it’s much more compelling hatewatching than other YouTube runners. I physically can’t watch the cringe, quick-cut style of YouTubers like Phily, but a new 40 minute floberg? Okay, you skip through the “epic vibes” run shots, and I skipped through most of the “two bros talking about macros” conversation that he had with Cole (did he really make his wife watch that entire thing? That’s… divorce worthy), and you gotta skip the tree section, and obviously skipped the sponsored content for AG1 or whatever it is he pretends to take.
That leaves you with at least 3 minutes of content, checking to make sure he’s still being an idiot and pushing too hard, running overly complex workouts, obsessing over getting to 100mpw, and then the best part, where his wife tells him what an insufferable person he’s being right now, and he soaks it in, justifies it, and changes nothing!
Honestly, it got me through a lunch break today, so gracias Eric.

Best bloferg summary I’ve read yet. Props to you, good sir.
I actually like Floberg content but do we really think it's a good idea trying to drop weight so aggressively 8 weeks out from the marathon? Feel like the time for this was a few months ago?
Maybe it took a long time to edit and he's coming off the cut now, I hope.

I found that whole segment so boring I skipped most of it but wasn’t it also just not a very aggressive cut? I thought he said something about losing 2lbs… I can lose 2lbs in 12 hrs so idk, maybe I dozed off for the important bit. All I got is that he’s being more selective about his macros now, so he’s going to put whey powder in his overnight oats or something, because Nick Bare does it.
I got like 30 seconds into bloberg’s latest and had to turn it off.
He was fat? Got made fun of? Now twenty years later needs to prove how fit he is but also that it’s still okay to be fat? Which is it my guy?
The Great John Broom had a video last week and he said something like "I didn't want to bore everyone with a self indulgent 15 min speech about my LT threshold" and I think this is the kind of self awareness totally lacking from anyone who puts out a YouTube video of 30 to 45 mins every week.
That floberg vid is so bad. I too watched maybe one min of it in total. Does anyone actually sit through all of that? I pity his poor wife!
Regarding Ben is Running, and this is a genuine question, financially is it better for him to be hawking himself to every manufacturer, or is it better to do something like Ran to Japan or Cole has, and actually get sponsored by one manufacturer? Okay, they presumably can’t do reviews of all different types of shoes, but Ben’s reviews are truly rubbish anyway, and if you want an independent review there are far, far better sources. Obviously Ben isn’t at the level of Jake or Cole, but I’m just talking generally. What is best? I would have presumed a single deal, but does anyone know?

I am perhaps more sensitive to ED issues than most, but….it’s Floberg. Most probably this will go the same way as the strength training and the sleep and the pacing plan, which he’s definitely going to stop neglecting any one of these race builds now.

The man can’t even string together a season plan to maintain the structural integrity of his tendons, I doubt long-term returns are really a factor here.
Also an FTP test for what is essentially some easy aerobic cross-training is about as useful as a V02max test for a guy who jogs a parkrun every once in a while, but anything to paper over that race execution I guess.

Well Cole is still working a job with his Adidas sponsorship, while Ben is a full time YouTuber. A single Instagram post of a mid-tier influencer like Ben (100-200k followers) would can cost between $1,000 and $5,000. Same goes for a YouTuber with that many followers. So Ben's way is more lucrative but it's also more work.

Great indeed. If I ever decided to get a coach I’d want it to be someone like John Broom. Guy knows a hell of a lot about running and I’ve always got time for an interesting historical or cricket fact to do with the parkrun location
Both the Brooms and FOD don’t have the fanciest of channels but they have a like ability about them that make you route for them in their training and race goals. Plus they have a way of explaining the more technical parts of running in an easy, palatable way. Much like sirpoc does in the NSM thread
