Week 256
*************************
Happy May Day, 50+ers! ---an ancient Northern European festival to welcome the spring weather and to drive away evil spirits; I need some of that in my life! I echo Mo'Pak sentiments....."having fun, keeping fit," unfortunately, the last week of April has been a fitness drag. It was the the final week of classes, so I've just had a lot on my plate, and, quite frankly, been woefully low on requisite sleep (under 6 hours/night). Got out 4 days, and aborted on the fifth day, so 24+1 miles for the week:
Sun: 5.0 Easy-ish (7:26 avg pace)
Mon: off
Tues: 5.1 w/Intervals: 2,4,6,8,2,4,6
Wed: off
Thur: 5.2 w/1.1@6:20 pace (7:06 avg pace)
Fri: 9.0 Steady (7:50 pace)
Sat: 1.0 Run aborted (7:30)
Tuesday's interval workout was a bust, too. Was supposed to be 2,4,6,8,10,8,6,4,2 w/2 jog recovery after the 2's and 4's, and 4 jog recovery after the 6,8, and 10; I could tell on the way up, that the effort was excessive for the pace, plus the humidity was deceptively oppressive for this yet-to-be-heat-acclimated old fart. Here are the times for the 2,4,6,8,2,4,6 reps that I did do: 43,90,2:16,3:07,long recovery,41,89,2:12,quit. Felt good for Friday evenings 9-miler, but then only managed 4-1/2 hours sleep and felt listless most of Saturday. Tried to go for a late afternoon run (was hoping to get my weekly total to 30), but just wasn't feeling it, C'est la vie.
And we should all raise a toast to the indefatigable Ed Whitlock and his amazing M85 WR in the Half-Marathon: 1:50:47, nearly 10 minutes under the previous World Record! Bravo!
So glad May has arrived! Should be a much better month, although currently there's a high chance of rain/thunderstorms for most of the long range forecast. How's life in your neck of the woods? Any races to report? (I'll probably run my first 5k of the spring in two weeks.)
All the Best!
