reading between the lines there's some admiration coming from the Kremlin - that Russia still feels it has to put a varnish of something over its imperial grabs but the US doesn't. That the US no longer has to hide its real goals is impressive to Russia. The game is about to be elevated. Like how after one runner breaks a barrier many more do.
buckle up, chuckleheads!
That’s right. When Trump goes to the table with someone, he means business. When Putin goes back on his word to the only man he needs be speak truthfully with, then Trump will make a decision. it’s what he does.
So we take Venezuela and Columbia. Greenland and Canada, all for good strategic reason. We are America dipshlt and back to back WW champions precisely because of leaders like Trump.
It’s showtime and you need to pick sides right quick.
You're a jellyfish. No one principled bone in your body. You stand for nothing.
"When it comes to predicting the president's next move, too many politicians and analysts assume coherence where there is division, chaos when there is improvisation, and restraint where there is only selectivity. Trump's foreign policy behavior emerges not from doctrine but from friction. Venezuela offered a target that felt weak, morally disreputable, geographically proximate, and manageable. Under Trump, foreign policy outcomes are less the product of grand strategy than of episodic alignment. Observers should stop asking whether a given action is consistent with Trump's supposed beliefs and start asking whether it is legible to him as fast, dominant, and containable. They should pay closer attention to intra-administration dynamics and to how ideas persist even when not immediately acted upon. Otherwise, the failure to predict Venezuela will not be an outlier."
Don't mean to be a d***, but after 10+ years, it's not a revelation for this author to point out that Trump has no principles (other than greed and constant insecurity-fed self-aggrandizement).
It is now becoming clear that there simply is no plan for Venezuela whatsoever. Nothing. No arrangements for running the government. No arrangements for anything. Not Rubio, MIller or Kegseth. They simply didn't think that far ahead. It was just a 1 hour military operation and nothing else. And they hope they can get the oil simply by blockades. And Venezuelans can just figure everything else out on their own with the exact same regime in place.
As a Trump expert, I feel like such a fool for not expecting this to be another Trumpian half azzed clusterfook just to satisfy his ego, his corruption and distract.
Deer World: "Way uglier-than-ever America, here. Our supreme court has said that our president can do whatever he wants (libs, please don't quibble over this; it's at least 99% accurate). He's above the law. However, YOUR leaders are NOT above OUR laws. We reserve the right to kidnap them (while blowing up and killing whomever we want in your country in the process) and take them to the U.S. to face charges that our president would never face.
Oh, and note that he wasn't REALLY the rightful leader of the country. We'll use that argument, if necessary. And when we do, we won't give one sh** that it's belied by the fact that we're not lifting one finger to get the rightful leaders of that country in place. You know, because as we've fully admitted, it's about oil (and greed and insecurity and bullying).
The “law and order “ party is now the ‘law of the jungle” party and proud of it.
end of civilization stuff hereZ
Asked by Kristen Welker why the U.S. needs Venezuelan oil, Rubio didn’t cite law, trade, or consent. He said: “Why does China need their oil? Russia? Iran? This is the West. This is where we live.”
corollary to this is that the GOP is around 48 hours away - at any time - from saying 'why should we hold elections in November? We are the majority party, this is our country, our government, this is ours. Why should we give it up?"
Just law of the jungle, which seems to be the new trump motto.
and cancelling our democracy would get the support of 80% of the Republican Party.
If we take over Cuba, we can send all the Cubans in Miami -- who have destroyed the place and turned it into a sh!thole city -- back home.
No, no, didn't you pay attention to Kristi? When we take over and fix a country, we somehow need to take in their refugees, too. You know, because it's fixed. The guys behind me fixed it.

It was Germany that had the leader like Trump. After 2 decades of so-called "winning", it ended badly for them. Please reflect on your stup-idity.
Dave Troy isn’t my foreign policy analysis go-to by any stretch, but this is an interesting encapsulation of points I’ve seen elsewhere (and some of them over time):
“since 2017, Putin has been trying to goad Trump into seizing Venezuela and Greenland. Putin thinks this will cement the “Monroe Doctrine” as US policy, which he thinks will drive US disengagement from Ukraine.
This effort failed in 2019 because it was blocked by John Bolton, Fiona Hill, Rex Tillerson, and other cabinet officials who considered these proposals but found them unwise. Putin’s efforts to goad Trump resumed in 2025, first with renewed interest in Greenland, second with Venezuela. The Venezuela dangle worked, and there were no adults to stop it, and plenty of profiteers eager to help.
Now he’s after Cuba and Greenland, which Putin thinks (again) will catalyze US disengagement in Ukraine, which he hopes will give him a freer hand there, as well as reorient US power in the Western Hemisphere and away from Europe.
That’s it. That’s what’s going on. Oil, minerals, peace prizes are all part of the dangle. But this is the whole ballgame.”
Except that I don't think that Trump needs to be distracted by or fortified by doing imperialist things in this hemisphere in order to not do the right thing in Europe. He would still hate our former allies in Europe and not support Ukraine even if there was NOTHING else going on in his tiny brain.
F’in John Thune needs to get his finger out of his rear end.
Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One tonight, Donald Trump: -Threatened Colombia -Threatened Cuba -Threatened Iran -Threatened Mexico -Said the U.S. is “in charge” of Venezuela and threatened it with a “second strike” -Said the U.S. needs Greenland “from the standpoint of national security”

Minor good news: There will almost certainly be no good news coming out Venezuela for the rest of Trump's presidency. Ditto any other country that we do that to. Indeed, there might be much bad news.
The actions of our country will continue to spiral downwards. Expect it, of course. Only 2 things to really hope for, at this point:
1) He does not succeed in wrecking next year's election.
2) Americans display a sliver of wisdom in voting during that election.
And sure, I guess that a third is that the courts continue to check him, and he doesn't decide to completely ignore them.
Minnesota’s Corrupt Governor will possibly leave office before his Term is up but, in any event, will not be running again because he was caught, REDHANDED, along with Ilhan Omar, and others of his Somali friends, stealing Tens of Billions of Taxpayer Dollars. I feel certain the facts will come out, and they will reveal a seriously unscrupulous, and rich, group of “SLIMEBALLS.” Governor Walz has destroyed the State of Minnesota, but others, like Governor Gavin Newscum, JB Pritzker, and Kathy Hochul, have done, in my opinion, an even more dishonest and incompetent job. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW!

Listening to Waltz speak to the UN it is absolutely certain the news will be bad for the foreseeable future. We’ve known the MAGA base has zero ability to perform one degree of analysis nor forecast second-order effects, but learning in real time the degree to which this is true for the MAGA leadership is a bit jarring.
The United States of America is making Russia, N.Korea and Syria look like more serious countries.
“BREAKING NEWS: The Pentagon announced they are demoting Captain Mark Kelly - translating to a reduced pension - claiming sedition and other problematic behaviors by the Senator from Arizona.”
”Hours before Maduro’s first court appearance on federal criminal charges, a senior Justice Department official amplified a post speculating that the Venezuelan dictator would try to plead to lesser charges by proffering “evidence” that the 2020 U.S. election was stolen.”
Who didn’t see this one coming?
Next up…
Fox News and My Pillow guy get vindicated that the Dominion Voting machines were indeed rigged.
Is Lindsay Halogen or Lorena Hobbit running point on this Maduro case?
It'll be Tiffany (Trump) - she graduated number 1 in her class at Georgetown Law.
^ Liar Sally at work again.
DADDY: She [Tiff] was a great student. She went to Georgetown. She was a great, great student, and she finished really right at the top. ... Her graduation got canceled. But I say if her name was something else they probably wouldn’t have canceled it.
REALITY: No, she was known as a party girl. Not at the top. ... The entire graduation wasn't cancelled because her daddy is named Trump, or her name being Tiffany.
