Well, those 2 or 3 posters on here criticising RanToJapan look pretty silly right now.
What a brilliant new video
The fact that the new video has no sponsored segments and is unanimously enjoyed seems like evidence that we were correct. It's not like I was saying the dude was cooked. Personally, I was optimistic he'd find the right balance going forward.
I think he may have even taken the feedback to heart despite staunchly defending himself. I imagine there's at least one sponsor he could've inserted into this video and he chose not to do any.
THIS. Totally agree.
I LOVED his earlier content. The worst part of the sponsored content was that it was forced into his least interesting videos to date.
He genuinely could've put some ads in this one and I would've happily tolerated it, as it would've been worth it for the content. The others, no.
I think it’s maybe telling that shoetubers declaring themselves ‘all in’ on a race seems to result in underperforming more often than not, and yet they’ll bust out a random B/C race that’s “such a pleasant surprise, I did no specific training for this one!”
it is almost as if trying to look cool on the internet does not correlate with training or racing particularly well? Surely there is some expensive gadget that will explain this mystery.
I don’t personally dislike Floberg like some in this thread do, but his latest video is a great example of why so many runners fail to succeed at their goals, despite appearing superficially to put in the requisite work.
So much time and energy being wasted, flailing away at what he perceives at training like the elite…
how many failing runners are now advertising coaching services? im getting sick of it, practically every borderline "elite" runner thinks they are a coach.
thing is, the likely clients they will attract, ie, the 3-4hour marathon brigade - the failed elite can not relate to these types, they do not know how to run for 4 hours, it takes a completely different approach to be on your feet for such a long time, like the 2hour30 runner training for a 36mile race.
do the likes of cole, phily, bester etc actually have any coaching qualifications or licences? why are the plod brigade so eager to listen to the apparent wisdom and hand over there card details to someone such as the welsh runner who has an incredible record of constant injuries and under-performances? cant understand why the old fashioned approach of joining your running club, training with the lads and being barked at by some OAP with a lifetime of experience in the sport is being lost to these phony "coaches" charging big bucks for a copy & paster spreadsheet

Most, if not all of these YouTubers pick some arbitrary time and think that is how you train. They think they train like an elite because they hit mileage but elites would laugh at the paces most of these hit.
You should train to effort for a large part of the block and fine tune the race pace based on your effort. Ben Is Running took a lactate test the day before his London marathon and this told him the shape he was in but he clearly didn't like the results and just went off too fast anyway. Many others like Floberg and Bester just randomly pick a time, not looking at any data from training and hit that pace from km 1 whether they feel right or not. xemptyzThey then sell their coaching services to other people!
Took Phily Bowden out for an easy Monday trail run, and it ended in disaster. She fell super hard coming down the limestone, so I ran back to the car while MVP triaged and we got her back to the house. then finished with MVP,...
Glad she's okay. Looks like it was just bruising and scrapes, with some swelling that went down after a few hours. "seriously injured" should be reserved for more serious injuries(TBI, spinal injuries, severe breaks or blood loss, etc).
Hopefully she went to a doctor to get some scans done as a precaution
