I've been noticing that this Jakob fella, who is pretty new to the youtube influencer scene, seems to be doing a lot of treadmill LT1 intervals and easy runs. He's also running a lot in some beat up vaporflys from 2018.
It seems he's leaving some performance gains on the table by not training faster on the track and having a bigger shoe rotation. Hopefully he reaches out to Floberg to see if he still has a coaching spot left, and maybe check out Kofuzi for some shoe recommendations. He only wears Nike for some reason, could probably look into Hoka or Puma if he ever wants to see any success on the roads in the future. In my humble opinion, he could reach a larger audience by partnering with more brands and doing a few fast park run challenges
I'd shamelessly watch Jakob tear up a local parkrun or try a "last to first challenge", ideally in a parkrun where Bester is going for a PB at the front.
Going into Champs Weekend it really is a case of the proof being in the pudding now for this year with Hobdell’s coaching. It’s giving a bit OAC Boulder vibes in terms of high expectations and maybe not such good results/ people questioning training.
The Makou team had a very good winter and early season on the roads and indoors for the most part but the track season has been pretty chequered so far.
In the videos though Hobdell seems fairly confident that they’re peaking well and that it’s all building towards this weekend. There seem to have been lots of meh results and disappointments for the athletes that he’s reassured them are needed to be rationalised as part of the bigger picture going into the races later in the season being the priority.
Certainly for Beattie, Leonard and Gidey - they have to convert the early season form and subsequent struggles into a strong performances now. Ellis Cross I just don’t think is quite as good as them but again he’s had a good early season and could turn it back.
I think that Elson is a slightly different case. Having a sliced achilles and losing 6 months and entering a new coaching setup off the back of that is a rough gig. I think considering that he’s done alright to PB at 5k and the 800. 3.32 is a tough standard though and 1500m running seems to be moving along at a fair clip so hopefully he can have at least one solid 1500 this year and then have a base to kick off next year, which is a realistic timeline for a return to a previous level.
Generally though, performance aside, it’s nice to see UK content and people given the opportunity to grow and have pro lifestyles. Brands getting involved and taking a chance on athletes and coaches who still engage in the UK scene is a good thing for grassroots sports and running

Hopefully Cole doesn't disappear up his own backside. Or worse, turn into Stephen Scullion and start every sentence by mentioning his marathon PB.
He had a great result in Berlin but a lot of his success and sponsorship since is based on his social media presence.
He may turn off his core audience similar to a number of other "hobby joggers" who went pro

My thoughts too. Text about himself written in the third person not great either.

I think he ultimately will. He’s a fantastic runner and his 2:16 was incredible coming off his previous year, I couldn’t believe the transformation personally.
But he shows massive signs of being a good few years away from growing up, like a student trying to prove to everyone something that doesn’t exist. Running being your entire identity whilst putting yourself out there on the internet is a place that can easily turn you into a complete bellend chasing what you think is the right path, whether it’s money, clicks or trends.
Needs good mates around him pulling him down a peg or two at training each week.
Hate to agree with you but, you’re right. I think individually they’re solid athletes but the training doesn’t seem to be clicking for the long term. Hobdell has had mixed results over the years, three Olympians you can’t overlook, but there’s been a lot of stinkers in there too. Tom Evans (Western States winner) being one, couldn’t wait to leave and was broken when he did.
who else has Hobdell coached? i know about Baddelly, Pollock and Seward but not familiar with any others? thought it was odd that he swung out of nowhere into this team after years out the game.
hes a highly prized lawyer by trade i believe, must be retired or part time babysitting these joggers. must know his stuff if he was involved with Baddelly but Elson seems to do to much slow stuff, not enough fast stuff for 1500m performance
If you don’t know Andy’s coaching credentials beyond those three and call 13:20 runners joggers then I can’t honestly hold a conversation with you about the UK scene.

Sorry, mate.
we can all see the club runners affiliated to him on power of 10, some of the herts phoenix runners look decent club standard but believe most of these are mainly coached at the universities.
good to see india weir join the squad, another sub GB caliber runner but looks on an upwards trajectory. probably substitued in to replace Astin who has been removed from startlist for UK champs and appears in trouble. probably another runner who would benefit from attempting the steeplechase as a route to make a world champs team one day or i fear this will become the home of sub top tier cross country runners

I felt the same way. The video seemed a little forced and had a Flobergish editing style.
The tattoo of his time and the corporate London marathon logo seem like a huge, self-absorbed mistake. Especially as he’ll probably beat that time. Also, Cole did come across a little naive in the way he was trying to sound smart, talking about nerve supply (seemed to have a very surface-level understanding).
Overall, I think it will be interesting to watch the build-up to Berlin. However, hopefully, he’ll dial back the “as a pro runner chat”. It’s beyond me why the better shoetubers are obsessed with calling themselves pro.
I do wonder to some extent if Hoka would be happy with that?
Rory and Scott can make GB teams on the cross, Gidey likely the Ireland team on any terrain and Elson on the short stuff like the mixed relays. It’s probably enough for them with the social media side for now. It’s not setting the world alight in US terms but there are lots of British people who follow that scene and they’re probably the only group getting that kind of exposure and social media out there
Whether they’re actually particularly social media genic is a bigger quandary perhaps. Leonard and Elson are and Andy Hobdell but a couple of the others don’t seem as naturally into it but then that could be the disappointment of having to talk to camera after another frustrating result
Does anyone feel like the floberg videos are just getting worse and worse every week? The part where he sits down with his wife and his wife just tells him he is an idiot is so weird.

He's been sick and is still running. Any mileage he missed he will apparently make up.
He hasn't got a clue. He thinks the reason he isn't getting as fast as he thinks is because he isn't running enough mileage.
It hasn't even crossed his mind that he runs his workouts too fast and may well need a different structure to get more out of his blocks
OG Shoetuber Seth "Jimthoy" Demoor is down another 1k subscribers
Oh really?! Wonder why that is.
Another great video from Flo. He really seems to have matured in his attitude to running. Some really sound advice from him in this one and really enjoying his tree and wife segments. He has such a wicked cool life.
He might have overtaken Zoidberg, Henning Berg and Dennis Bergkamp as the greatest Berg of all time.
2. Decide yourself to run high mileage, because others do
3. Lift weights (because professionals do)
4. Obsess over non running details
5. Sacrifice quality workouts in favor of more easy miles
6. Track many different things, to the detriment of learning what’s important
7. Burn out your supportive wife (who will kindly not say “I told you so” when you get injured)
8. Results go backwards, but you can always find a reason to justify means/why
I have done this cycle.
I can't believe this guy followed Pfitz, very loosely, somehow hit a sub 3, then followed Pfitz religiously for 2 blocks, smashed PRs twice and then has been slowly going backwards since. But somehow he is now an expert on coaching?
He needs to be doing a speed specific block. His 5k to HM times are not anywhere where they need to be if he wants to get 2:30
