Marathons really are my favorite races to watch. Imagine if all the majors had coverage half as good as this (and we even missed a good chunk because of the weird 1500 heat scheduling)
Jakob I. out and looking terrible, OH MY the SHOCK of the games! He will probably be a non factor in the 5,000m as well! I've never seen him looked so devastated, not even as a 16 year old in his first world championships. He needs to call it a year and get ready for next year.
This has been a great Worlds so far and it's only morning day 2! (Barring Jakob not making it but that's just reality. I mean, his words coming in were something like, We'll give it a try. Let's see what happens. What happens happens. I mean, look at his hair. Like he's been brewing craft beer with his baby.
Seeing Peres Jepchirchir grit it out on a track finale for the marathon was outstanding after years of injury and not great performances. Love the return to the stadium for the marathon. And impressed that Susanna Sullivan got it almost just right. 2:25 was the sweet spot. She would've medaled with that. 4th is amazing for any American. Hope the men do something tomorrow.
Is this your mother or something? In the 2023 worlds she led through the opening miles of the marathon and dropped down to 58 and ran a 2:44.
she finished far better than I think she even believed she could. I’m impressed she held on as long as she did. There is no denying that she gambled away a podium finish today though
