- He had to be very experienced to get such an accurate shot off from a distance far enough from the crowd gathered. 200+ yards (600 feet) also must include allowance for wind to be so precise.
200 yards is not an extraordinary range to make that shot with a suitable rifle. It requires competent marksmanship but nothing special. It's unlikely that a trained sniper would have hit the target in the neck.

There would be bipartisanship on something like this in Australia. The way our govt is elected, sure one of the two major parties always wins, but it is non presidential and with a 'two party preferred' system, where preferences from other parties determine vote, there has to be a wider reach from either party leading to very centrist govt. Not 100% perfect but close.
People also don't 'talk politics' or give a rats who you vote for in terms of friendship, socialising etc. It goes a long way to prevention of such actions.

There are several long range gun ranges within a 20 minute drive of Utah Valley University. Not hard to get a warmup in within 2 hours of the intended assassination. It happened mid afternoon. If the kid in butler is to be believed that it was a solo operation with actual secret service on site, he was at near sea level going after a standing and moving target from a similar distance. This is a much different scenario requiring less tactical ability and skillset.

The "shot" from the rooftop that was 200 yards away is a false flag. A bullet that can go that distance is travels a lot faster, otherwise it can make the distance. The neck wound was from a bullet lot closer and slower speed.

This is likely a test killing. Expect a few more as the 2026 elections nears, and a lot more as 2028 elections near. Trump will declare a national disaster and cancel the elections. He might even declare he can appoint congressional seats as he likes.
