So the US has one of the smaller percentage drops in deaths. Disappointing. But looking at the US' 57% drop in cases, deaths should soon start to fall more quickly. We're down to 2954, still about the same as a 9/11 every day.

Interesting to say that we don't want too many of them and yet they keep finding employment under the table.

And it's not mostly Democrats that hire them. The Trump Foundation was providing false documentation to get cheap labor and chanting to build the wall at the same time.

Perhaps the xenophobes' most inaccurate canard is the notion that people are coming to the USA to get free stuff.

If you leave your country, your town, your language--essentially, most of your life--to come to this country, that shows a considerable amount of motivation and get-up-and-go spirit. Not typically the kind of person who then sits on his/her ass.

Most people come to the States to work and build better lives for themselves and their families. They come precisely because they've heard that the work opportunities are there. Gives the lie to the Xenophobe's Paradox: "They're taking our jobs! AND they're here for freebies!"

Of course, given that noncitizens don't qualify for welfare or Social Security (a lot of them pay taxes to support those, however), you have to wonder exactly how much "free stuff" was on offer anyway.

There are very few xenophobes in America. And it is in fact possible to have a job and benefit from the many government services, so that's not a paradox.

Of course, this had already been pointed out to you. And you might have needed an IQ over 80 to understand the obvious - one should not refer to people who have done something illegal as "illegals". One should refer to them as people who have done something illegal, regardless of what that something is.

I thought yesterday was the beginning of the impeachment trial.

They then held a vote to proceed with the trial.

Didn't they already hold a vote to proceed with the trial last week or so?

I guess the first vote was the senate debating whether they could proceed and this was Trump's lawyers asking for it to not proceed.

Pretty sickening that 44 Republican senators say there should not be a trial to hold a president accountable for his actions while he was president simply because he is not currently holding office.

The ramifications are more than just removal from office. It would be a conviction on record and then a vote to bar him from further office.

They need 2/3 to convict but only 51% to bar him from running again.

There is a valid reason for the trial.

Of course, there is basically no chance of getting that 2/3 conviction, which means the second vote to bar him in the future could not happen.

It was noted that several Republican senators would not even watch the video played of the insurrection. They looked down at their notes.

It's like the mob boss already slipped an envelope of money in the juror's pockets.

That gap doesn't sound enormous, but from what I've read that gap is the difference between herd immunity and not herd immunity.

How this works out in the real world no one knows, esp since the two groups share some of the same common space. But it does show how gaps appear in national health stats...like why rich people live longer than poor people. It's not just availability of health care. It's bad choices. The vaccine is free, HS grads! Free! Get it and save lives!
