WTI $108, Brent $120. No sign yet of oil hitting a ceiling today. WTI's peak during the war was $112. Once all of Trump's buddies lock in their short positions, Trump will come out tomorrow and announce that there is a framework of a deal to open the strait and oil prices will crash again. And then Trump will say that Iran has until Sunday to unilaterally open the strait or else the US will send 1,500 nuclear ICBMs to Tehran. And then Trump will say on Saturday that Iran has agreed to everything and the strait will be open by Monday. And then on Monday, Trump will say that he is giving Iran until Friday to agree to everything or else he will send 15,000 robot dogs each carrying directed energy weapons to seek out every IRGC member and cause their heads to explode just like in Scanners.
This has to be the dumbest international conflict in world history. Iran has actually shown that they can defend themselves quite well without needing any nuclear deterrence. But Iran is willing to destroy their country just so they can enrich uranium. Trump is going to tank the world economy just to get Iran to agree to not enrich uranium for 20 years as opposed to 5 years.
There are now reports that the US is planning a short wave of powerful strikes on Iran to try and break the stalemate in negotiations. But at the same time, the US announced that the USS Gerald Ford carrier group is going to be leaving the Middle East. Maybe Trump will get in one last lick before his 60 days under the war powers act is up. Maybe he won't. Either way, time has all but run out for Trump to get out of this conflict with a soft landing.
