CIM is the usatf national championship this year. Hope they test him!
They can test him all they like - he'll cycle off anything the week before the race.
EPO and Testosterone Propionate is only detectable for 2 to 6 days after administration.
To have any chance of catching him, you'd Random, out-of-competition testing to catch him off-guard. Of course, no hobby jogger in a marathon would - or should be - subject to this protocol.
This seems to align with the speeds RTJ runs. I don't think Bester's ego will allow him to run this pace. He needs the admiration of people saying "how did you just do a 25k easy run at my 5k pace".
Begging these rubes to take 5 seconds and check the elapsed time on his activities. His 4:19/km run yesterday morning - sorry coach had to go fast because I have a flight haha! - was actually 4:50/km. Back when he started moaning about how easy his coach wants him to go, he ran 4:47/km which was actually 5:16/km.
I am the first to critique Philly; however, I found her latest video about her Olympic ambitions refreshingly honest.
That being said, it doesn't seem like a healthy goal. She has a childlike view of the Olympics as the pinnacle of human performance.
In the video, she appears extremely focused on just "making it" to the Olympics. However, she acknowledged that she's a long way from meeting the standard and being one of the top three women in the UK.
Overall, she seemingly has a chance (although slim) of making the Olympics. It is admirable to see people chase a dream; however, if she does make it, she probably will just be happy to finish the race in the bottom half of the pack. No doubt she'll get an Olympic Ring tattoo like Stephen Scullion and milk the s**t out of it. However, it seems like limited upside for the amount of sacrifice and effort she is going to put in.

But what else do you expect her to do?
Just give up and go back to her clerical work?
She has no choice except going for it, this way she will keep the views of the video ongoing for couple of years.

I'd say give up on that goal, and work on being an influencer - which she seems better at. Become a better runner and broadcast that journey.
I admire the confidence to set such a goal and she is very knowledgeable of the selection process. Whilst she mentioned 5 athletes ahead of her last year based on time (6 as she missed out Georgina Schweining), she also didn't consider that there could also be a similar number who didn't run a marathon last year who could be ahead of her, notably Eilish McColgan running 2:24 this year and Abbie Donnelly and Samantha Harrison likely to improve on their 2:25 and 2:26 PBs. Not to mention younger runners breaking through into the mix.
Phily is capable of running the 2:22/23 that's probably going to be required, she stays relatively injury free and is a full time financially supported athlete. It would be a great story if she makes it.
Competing in the Olympics at all seems like something completely worth the sacrifice and effort.
I think it's up for debate. If this drains her mentally and physically to the point of getting in the way of her business as an influencer I say it's not worth it. And being in the Olympics but not actually competing and being some background character finishing in the back of the pack will be just sad.
If the Olympics was the only game in town like 25-30 years ago and we all gathered around the TV and watched it like before OK I can understand her being satisfied just participating. But today olympian champs get forgotten the day after the games - games are competing with countless other entertainment sources for eyeballs and they are getting more irrelevant by the year...
Regularly racing shorter road distances like the half and 10K is what she AND her channel need. She hasn't raced since London.

I think it's not worth it for her mental health. Also, I don't think she aims to compete at the Olympic - this suggests she has a remote chance of finishing in a relevant position.
Sounds like everything she is going to do from now is focused on qualifying. I think there are better things for her to go all in on.

100% correct. Bowden falls into the category of influencer first and runner second. Would someone serious about hitting a WC or Olympic qualification time have ran at London? No. They'd find a perfect marathon with pavers to help. However, this won't get views.
She's stuck between a rock and a hard place. She needs to concentrate on running and training but has to constantly create content to keep an income rolling in.
Honestly, working a stressless 9-5 and training in her spare time would probably work out better. I guarantee she's working, filming etc more than 35/40 hours a week and probably scraping by with no leave, savings or pension.
But it's not about the money is it? It's about calling yourself a "pro runner" or "elite" as this somehow justifies her existence
This Messy Happy have quit their teaching jobs (Awful, awful click bait title and video posted on YouTube) - with running and YouTube now their main source of income expect them to be reviewing shoes, selling anything for anyone and also milking the coaching for as much as they can
Cole has announced he's been picked up by Adidas and Start Fitness, another one of these hybrid influencer / running deals like RTJ or Philly.
The lad has bags of potential but running Berlin and Valencia is a bit of an ask. He's says there is no pressure for Berlin but how do you turn up to your sponsors premier race and not take a big swing (to rob a phrase from another)
Hopefully the videos might get a bit of professional editing, there are only so many race pudding clips and elevator music soundtracks you can endure.

Not exactly - they did this last year with a handful of top British club runners - it's a single race deal, not an ongoing sponsorship like Philly & RTJ have, and while it is mainly Adidas being mentioned, it's ultimately Start Fitness who are supporting him(& the others previously)
