Bester being younger is probably more able to handle the higher volume. Sirpoc is just being cautious and smart
Hes not actually that much younger. At the end of the day, we can all argue about who is better and whose training is smarter but only one thing is fact - one has run a 2:19:xx marathon and the other a 2:24:xx . And both are probably significantly quicker than anyone commenting here

What makes me laugh about Bester is that he runs 150k a week minimum, it seems 52 weeks a year, and after something like 3 years manages to knock 1 min off his PB at the Marathon and people think her knows what he's doing?
He does the mileage of a pro, with super shoes, massages and freebies a plenty yet hundreds of hobby joggers with full time jobs, on less mileage, are beating him regularly.
He doesn't know anything about correctly training as he should be reviewing his training blocks and wondering why he's stagnating. He just keeps doing the same thing and is obsessed with that workout, which he very rarely completes which is something like 3 x 10k at marathon effort.
Could very well be indeed....even this checks out:
“I wasn’t built for running,” says Bester, now 65. “I was around 72kg, and I was up against guys who sometimes weighed 20kg less than me. But I learned to believe in myself, and I think that was my biggest strength.” In 1991, proving his bona fides as a runner, Bester won the Comrades Marathon. This breakthrough win set him on course to be one of the most popular local runners, in a decade when the Russian ultra runners started to make their presence felt. Bester was a symbol of good old-fashioned vasbyt, and South Africa loved him.
In 1997, Dmitri Grishine looked the favourite but there was also Charl Mattheus and Zithulele Sinqe. Bester knew he would have to pull out all the stops.

Good point which is why Nick is Nick and highly respected. You cannot I'm afraid compare him to a random guy and username from Letsrun. Nick is on another level whether guys here like it or not.
Someone's lucky first marathon is silly to compare in the same race to a day where nick obviously wasn't focused as an A race.
I really no not knowing why he gets so much heat. For my money nick has done more for the amateur running community in the last decade. Some people will obviously hate it, but success brings hate!
New to this and reading the latest messages which seem heavily Nick Bester orientated. A marmite character as it seems half love, half hate.
Trying to get my head around the half who are saying his training is terrible and he’s clueless. You do realise he’s run a 2:19 marathon in the last 12 months right?!

Running 200km a week all in supershoes, training as a pro athlete with a personal massager every day? In £500 super, super shoes on an extremely flat Berlin course?
Most of the anti Bester brigade despise his personality, the forced nature of the man and the stories of his spotlight effect issues in starting corals

If it was as easy as that we’d all be running 2:19 marathons. You’re coming across a little unhinged
Truett Hanes is dropping weight, sacrificing (some of) the muscles, and says he'll probably run CIM in shorts. He's increasing mileage. I'm surprised. He seems like he's already in sub 2:30 shape. I think it'd be better for his channel if he didn't go all-in on running like this. I respect that he's sacrificing more to get faster. He was already on a path to run sub 2:30 at CIM with jeans and more muscle, which would do better on social media than slimming down and wearing shorts for a 2:23 or whatever. I'm actually rooting for him to announce his "OTQ or die trying" series next, just for the drama. Still a long way to go to CIM with higher mileage and a calorie deficit. Hopefully he's got some good supplements to prevent injuries.

Its sad so many appear to be on the gear - Mattisrunning, I think he has changed his Youtube name to his real name, appears to be juiced, probably many others. It is a business and can you blame them if they are making money and getting away with it?
Influential young men, desperate to follow suit and become hybrid Gods don't realise that simply working hard will get you there
This is Nick Bester Jr. His father was named Nick Bester. There is a chance that his son is also Nick Bester, the one we know.
Ressemblance is uncanny and my mind is blown
It blows my mind how so many people on this message board (and thread) cant take 30s to do any research for themselves.
Nick Bester (Youtuber) is not related to the Comrades Winner. Yes they are both called Nick Bester and both South African, yes the comrades named his son after himself, but it's not the UK-based Marathoner, this is just coincidence that people keep conflating because they take everything at face values.

and if you want to get really ott, notice who the Comrades doesnt follow on IG? The youtuber.
In his recent London 10k video he mentioned that he used to do his easy runs at 4:05-4:20min/km pace. He says his new coach has slowed him down to 4:45-5:00min/km.

CIM is the usatf national championship this year. Hope they test him!

This seems to align with the speeds RTJ runs. I don't think Bester's ego will allow him to run this pace. He needs the admiration of people saying "how did you just do a 25k easy run at my 5k pace".
