Ukraine Military Analysts Phillips P. OBrien @PhillipsPOBrien I’m still dumbfounded how easy it was for Putin to coopt the Republican Party through Trump. This is extraordinary. One of the two ruling parties of the most powerful country in the world, doing the bidding of a genocidal dictator. Don’t really know how to process this.
It’s easy. Follow the money.
Some might say follow the lust for power or to stay in power but the ultimate goal of power is money.
it's not money it's fear of the m'aga grass roots. You go against trump you lose your job. Automatic.
Elected GOPers will say in private 'holy heck trump is terrible I hope he loses' but they can't say that in public or they lose their jobs in the primary.

You are in your 60s arguing about politics on a running forum.
You should be using your retirement for something else.
“In a totalitarian society, you have to say things you don’t believe because you’re afraid of what the repercussions might be. That’s what’s happening inside the Republican party right now.”
Correct, and team trump is openly warning those who don't publicly kiss his ring that there will be consequences.
Hypocrite. You support a tyrant as long as he's on your team.
Sleepy Joe defied the Supreme Court and continues to brag about it.

Correct. Lose your legislative job and you lose what?

Money!
just $174k a year, no raises for 15 years, no job security and you have to keep two homes and be away from your family?
it's not money. It's access to power and that thrill.
A family with two teachers is better off than a member of congress.
which is one reason we get the dregs.

I love ya buddy. But legislators come out of office worth many millions for 15 years. The salary is about as important to lawmakers as it was to Trump when he was Prez. Not to mention the way they can parlay a long tenure into big money after they leave office.

you want to believe this to the bottom of your soul but I believe it's not true. But show me some facts and I'll change my view.

Citizens United decision effectively made following the money nearly impossible. And the money source is now nearly infinite. Foreign entities can influence elections and be nearly invisible doing it. The candidate with the most money wins about 90% of the time.
Republicans don't want to fix the border. They really don't.
Another example of how, when you actually tell people what GOP policy is, voters don't believe you. I'd guess not 1 in 10 Trump voters know the GOP wants to keep the border open and refuses to secure the border. And if you told that 1 in 10, they wouldn't believe you.
Bill Melugin @BillMelugin_ BREAKING: In a statement to @FoxNews , the Border Patrol union says they support & endorse the bipartisan border deal negotiated in the Senate, saying it’s “not perfect, but far better than the status quo”.

But which is cause and which is effect? Not as obvious as you might think.

I was not suggesting a cause and effect. Money winning elections has been true for a long time. The intended point is that when the source money is obscured, we do not know who the politician may owe when elected. Very few politicians want to make this more transparent.
Finding fault with Ukraine does not excuse Russia invading and trying to take that country as their own by flattening cities, targeting citizens and killing hundreds of thousands. Or are you still buying the Putin Propaganda of a righteous war of concern over Nato and Nazis?
Watch very closely as the biggest Putin shill Tucker does his "journalism" in Russia. Tucker will get richer and Putin's BS will be more mainstream in the US. As time moves on the fact that Putin invaded Ukraine and started this war gets moved into obscurity. That is Putin's goal. To run out the clock and hopefully get Trump back into office to "Stop this war in 24 hours" by giving Ukraine to Russia.
I love you anti-religious leftists who throw out words like "righteous" as if they mean anything.
Russia believes their cause is "righteous" so intelligent people wouldn't push them across lines they have said for years are red lines.
If you jab a bear in the eye with a stick and it mauls you you aren't a victim you're an a**hole.
The reality is whatever your opinion is on who's right or wrong in Ukraine the war is OVER. Ukraine cannot win. Prolonging the war serves absolutely no purpose beyond killing more Ukrainians and making arms dealers, corrupt politicians, and lobbyists rich.
And regardless this is all completely and utterly irrelevant to the US border and it is "despicable" that the Democrats and neocons are holding US border security hostage over it.
Republicans at work with their constant violence and threats.
This is how democracies die.
AIKEN, S. C.—Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has applied for Secret Service protection because of increasing threats she has received as Donald Trump’s last major opponent for the 2024 GOP nomination.
Haley confirmed the application for protection in an interview Monday afternoon with The Wall Street Journal.
“We’ve had multiple issues,” the former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador said after a campaign event here. “It’s not going to stop me from doing what I need to do.”
But which is cause and which is effect? Not as obvious as you might think.

Correct which is why I believe the SCOTUS having allowed Super PACs was one of the worst things for our democracy.

One very simple perk can make them very rich - you are basically allowed to insider trade as a politician. Insane I know, but it's true.
