It appears that many Trump voters had an awakening of who Trump is on Jan 6th. I know a few myself. But they failed to realize how many of their fellow Trump voters were no longer extractable from the cult. Nor did they realize their party would never turn the corner and take the opportunity to kick Trump to the corner when they had the chance. This is why Trump and the Trump campaign are livid with Nikki Haley. By her continuing to be in the race with no chance of winning, she is exposing how many of these GOP Voters that hate Trump are out there.
Some donors are interested in keeping her going precisely for this reason... they want to jump start the pivot away from Trump. Clearly Trump is not just going to step away from politics because the mouth breathers bankroll him. The donors know he's going to lose yet understand the base is still hypnotized, plus FOX will continue to monetize that for as long as they can. This means lots of losing ahead for Rs, and the donors will feel it down the road once D policy starts to hurt their wallets. Some have decided they won't sit around and just watch it happen. As soon as he loses again they are going to deal him a deadly blow behind the scenes.

BLM protests were about disproportional police brutality for minorities. Some people started looting and fighting with police. Yes, lock them up.
Jan. 6 was organized by right wing militia anti government groups and the plan was to attack the Capital. That is a very big difference to start. They marched to the Capital after Trump spoke and thousands of people advanced on the police line at the Capital. This was not for looting, but to stop Congress from ratifying the election. They injured about 150 police officers and broke into the Capital building some calling for killing Congress members. When blocked, they started vandalizing offices. Again, the intent was to halt the functioning of the US Government. Many of the J6 insurrectionists have admitted in court that they went with this intent.
Assaulting a police officer should result in jail time. Pre-planning it and doing it in an attempt to overthrow the US Government adds a bit of jail time.
