That is supposed to only be used to have more time to safely move US forces out at the end of combat operations. But there is no vehicle to dispute the request for an extension. I think we may see an extended slap fight where Iran and the US squabble over seizing ships in the Gulf, but neither side is willing to escalate further. Both sides seem to be ok with the status quo right now and have no better options than to see who can hold out during this diplomatic stalemate.

The US military is ready to bomb the snot out of Iran. But I just don't see Trump pulling the trigger. We might see another round of limited strikes with Israel leading the way. However, I think Trump has met his match in Iran and does not know how to get out of this one. He is making this up as he goes and is just going to fake it until he makes it.

Do you know who big Iran is? As large as the fly-over states, and a large part of Europe. The U.S. is short of weapons, and Iran has over 30 groups that can operate independently. Kill one group, and there are still 30 to go.

I think Trump has backed himself into a corner. People he trusts have finally gotten it into his head that taking out Iran’s infrastructure really is a war crime and would severely damage America’s standing in the world. Trump’s team will negotiate something that won’t include Iran’s nuclear program, but maybe it will have some other points that will allow him to save face.
