I agree that the best team often doesn't win every year. Especially in the NFL playoffs where the winner is decided by one game. A bad play/call or 2 can change an entire game.

I would say the best team wins more often than not, but to say they win every year is just plain dumb. It's probably pretty close to 50/50
No one is going to suggest that the best team wins every year. But it's not too far from the truth. Based on Elo rankings, the best team has won 82% of the time.
The NFL has decided that the "Best Team" is the best team that shows up Feb 01 and wins. That is the one common goal of every team, not stats or W/L.
Any other "measure" of quality falls short.

Hey Dial a Dilly, how 'bout them Cowboys? You are the biggest loser to ever visit these boards. No wonder you are in love with them.

I'll go ahead and jinx them but someone tell me what team is better than your Dallas Cowboys.

I wasn't trolling. Did you not watch the game today?
Need to do the Super Bowl bump for this thread.
Dallas, Green Bay, Seattle, New England and Denver all tied for the best regular season in the NFL at 12-4.
Let's track the crazy Cowboy path for the playoffs.
In the first round of the playoffs the Cowboys beat the Lions in a close game that had a controversial and highly discussed pass interference call against the Cowboys that was then reversed.
In the second round of the playoffs the Packers beat the Cowboys in a close game that had a controversial and highly discussed catch by Dez Bryant the was reviewed and reversed.
In the NFC Championship game the Seahawks beat the Packers in a furious comeback and overtime win that had a Hail Mary two point conversion and a successful onside kick.
In the Super Bowl the Patriots beat the Seahawks with a crazy ending that had a deep broken up pass land in the receiver's lap while he was on the ground followed by a controversial and highly discussed one yard pass play that turned into a game winning interception by the Patriots.
Wow! That was some serious football.
Was this the greatest NFL playoffs ever?
The Lions were one play away from beating the Cowboys who were one play away form beating the Packers who were one play away form beating the Seahawks who were one play away form beating the Patriots and winning the Super Bowl.
Oh, and the Eagles in the regular season were one play away from beating the Cardinals which would have put the Eagles in the playoffs and of course they would have own the Super Bowl.
Great Super Bowl to watch. Glad the Cowboys weren't there to get embarrassed.

You know they dominated the team that was one yard from winning right?
Anyways I agree with star(other than the Eagles BS). This was one of the craziest playoffs I've seen in a long time. Add to that the upset of manning and the Broncos, pats overcoming 2 14 pt deficits to the Ravens, and everyone's fake outrage over deflatgate.
Now hopefully the NFL can make it a few months without anyone beating up their kids or significant other
Are you talking about the Cowboys dominating the Seahawks early in the regular season?
Do you remember the Thanksgiving game this year? (with the Eagles backup QB)
Or how about the Packers dominating the Patriots this year?

1) I am not saying Dallas is better than Seattle necessarily, I am just pointing out to the numb nuts that it wouldn't have been a blowout.
2) The thanksgiving game was on thursday afternoon, Dallas got home at 6 am monday morning from their game against new york. This is a team that had a qb who didnt' practice during the week all year due to a broken back. I think we can agree that game was an anomaly.
3) In Lambeau this year the Pack won by scores of:
31-24
42-10
38-17
55-14
53-20
43-37
30-20
Against the Pats in Lambeau it was 26-21....considering they were almost unbeatable at home, I would say 26-21 is far from dominating and indicates on a neutral field NE would win.

And the Chiefs dominated the Super Bowl champs. BFD. Teams are different in the playoffs than in the regular season. New England and Seattle are good examples of this, as are Dallas and Denver.

Anomaly?
First of all, it was a home game for Dallas.
The Eagles had to travel on a short week.
The Eagles played with their backup QB while the Cowboys had the statistically best QB in the league playing.
The Eagles won 33-10. And let up on the gas in the 4th quarter.
The anomaly was the next game that started with a weird turnover on the opening kickoff that jump started a 21-0 Cowboys lead.
A lead that they blew as the Eagles came back to take the lead.
But the Eagles backup QB just couldn't take care of the ball and they had another fluke turnover when their tight end was tackled but landed on a defender instead of the ground and the ball came out and counted as a fumble.
4 turnovers for the Eagles in that game. 2 Flukey ones and 2 interceptions by their backup QB.

I think it can be argued either way based on which team you are a fan of. However, one team was 12-4 and the other was 10-6. Additionally Dallas' losses to Washington and Arizona were without Romo. I don't want to hear about Foles because he was NOT any better than Sanchez. Guy was a turnover machine. Additionally when Dallas lost by two points the year before with Kyle Orton at QB, everyone said that wasn't an excuse. So its all moot. The Eagles folded down the stretch because they stopped getting all of those defensive and special teams touchdowns to bail them out. They just plain weren't as good as Dallas this year.
I think your post below confirms it... The Cowboys were the best team in the NFL this year...On a serious note they were one of the best teams. That is all you can really ask for. I laugh on the radio when people are now like "do you think the cowboys can get xyz for next year so they can be a contender?" Acting like we were a long way away this year. We were a contender this year. We were 1 win from the best record in the NFL. Considering we were 1 play from beating GB and beat Seattle already this year, and GB just self destructed to lose to Seattle, we were a lot close to the SB than most people realize. We just need to not get worse next year. A 12-4 team is a few breaks from being a 10-6 or 9-7 team that doesn't make the playoffs. The big key this year was Romo stayed healthy for most of the season. He misses a few more games
