Why are you calling this “wishful thinking”? What makes you think the poster is wishing for this scenario? Yeah, Trump lost the popular vote twice, and doing so got him the White House one of those times.

Complacency? Biden is a way better option than Trump, but he remains far from a great option. A high percentage of voters, when asked questions about unemployment, market performance, etc. get the answers wildly incorrect and perceive the economy as doing much worse than it is. Add Biden’s age to that, and he doesn’t make for a strong candidate, when the Dems really should have been in position to have a very strong showing in the fall.

The answers haven’t been easy for party leadership (replacing Biden on the ticket with anyone prior to now? With whom? When and how?), and there’s complacency or at least inertia now, perhaps due to certain thinking about polling numbers getting better after the verdict. Those will change, though. And the rank and file? They can’t stand DJT? Oh, many lefties are considering protest votes against Biden over issues like Palestine, as though that’s not the proverbial cutting off your nose to spite your face.

It’s a long way till November, and a lot could happen.

Of course, the crowd isn't there for Trump. I'm sure many of the people who attend such an event will vote for him, if they vote. But it doesn't mean they filled the arena for him.

A big segment of his base are culturally conservative and there has been a switch where Republicans have gained support of white working class and the old country club college educated Republicans have now moved to become more Democratic.
