Should've seen that one coming literally miles away. At that pace who else but Woodmeister would come out on top. 54.7 last lap, 2 seconds faster than the next fastest.
How? Frerichs fell but made the final. McGorty was top 3 as a major surprise. Fisher still can possibly make the world team with the qualifying times. Cranny is a US champion in an upset. Karissa might make the team as well. Good day for them, but they've set the bar so high I could see how someone might think this is a failure.
Every year they play it into his (woody’s) hands to make a team, only for him to not be competitive at the world stage. It’s cool to watch but pretty annoying because we know he won’t do anything when it matters, as much as we wish he could medal and not get dropped in a final. Joe played it smart and sat, sat, sat. Mcgorty did nothing different from what he’s done back from HS, he’s always been a fast finisher as well. Grant botched that, he’s proven to be better at the world class stage than everyone else. Should have pushed, I’m sure he’ll come back angry for the 5k.
4:01-4:04:XX last 1600 for the first few guys. Was a good race to watch. I think Mantz went a bit early, but I think he did phenomenal in the race. He has some pretty good range for being a marathoner
Actually thats the one saving grace in my opinion. A person with actual ESPN experience who is knowledgable about the sport. Hard to get better commentary than this.
Cranny and Woody just reminded all of the 10k specialists that if they leave it to the last mile, they are potentially giving away a spot at WC’s to someone else
