Prosperity = Everything cost 3x more and no one can afford a home.
You need to turn the TV off and go walk around the old folks home.
heh, close enough to 65 yeah.
you must not have lived through the 70s or 80s. What we have war-wise now is not all that impressive. It's something, but nothing like what we olds grew up with.
but heck, the US had actual big wars in the 90s and 00 and 10s. I'm sure you are old enough to remember those.
Wages are rising faster than costs, unemployment is very low, household balance sheets are solid... people are fine. Try living in the 80s when unemployment was 7%, inflation 4%, we were constantly having proxy wars all over the globe, Japan was eating our lunch...and those are considered the good old days now. Grow up.
Why are you spending your retired years arguing about politics on a running forum?
That's beyond pathetic to post 10+ times a day.
I was born in early 80s.
The war we have is not 'all that impressive'? Absolutely bizarre comment considering we had no new wars 4 years ago. This is the most chaotic time of the past 25 years and it's thanks to the poor leadership in this country.
In regards to the economy...bro you need to leave your nursing home. I have a well paying finance job and people I work with can't afford a house. Homelessness has surged and going to Mcdonalds cost $40+ for 2 people.

You know this nation was at actual war in Iraq and Afghanistan until recently, right? You know this? The US was taking thousands of actual American casualties and we were all terrified of more 9-11 (also within 25 years) style Islamic terror events.
that doesn’t even mention the great financial crisis or the war in Syria. All within the last 25 years too. jfc.
I’m so sorry 3% inflation and 4% unemployment and near zero US causalities or terror victims are frightening you. Maybe crawl under your blankie and call your mom.

The girlfriend and I splurged the other night and ordered some chipotle. Both of us had guac and we got the small chips and queso. $32. I have no idea what you could possibly be ordering at McDonalds that would cost that much, nor could I imagine how people in well paying finance roles can't save up enough money to buy a house. My gf and I both work mid level positions (140k combined) and we could buy a house right now if we wanted to. Are they only looking at houses in New York City or something?

Your post says a lot without saying a lot.
1) You paid $32 for bad food from a company with a history of safety/cleanliness issues. That's ridiculously expensive for low quality food. Period. And you said this was a SPLURGE. Fast food is NOT a splurge. You have been brainwashed.
2) 2 Burgers, 1 Big Mac and two 10 pieces and a couple of fries are~$30-40 bucks (again depends on the area).
3) I bought my house when Trump was in office for $450k at 3.5%.
I was offered $650k -$750k multiple times and one house sold for $800k (just like mine) recently with the buyer paying $80k above asking in cash with no inspection.
It's not about SAVING for a house, it's AFFORDING the PAYMENTS with the interest rates and increased prices of houses.
If I bought the same house now I would have a massive down payment, double the mortgage rate and I would have to bid about $80k above asking with NO inspection.
4) I'm presuming you have never been married, never had kids, and don't really have a serious career with your house hold income. Why should people take advice from you?

Yeah, $40 for two NORMAL people at McDonald's is crap. If anyone who can't afford $40 for two people NEEDS to eat fast food, they can do so cheaply by getting value menu items. DQ has a $7 meal deal right now that is a lot of food. Wendy's has cheap items. McDonald's has cheap items...so do most fast food places. Better yet, make your own food at home if you're poor. Eating out is for wealthy people.

How the heck are you spending $40 for two at McDonalds. I have not had a Big Mac in 20 years but you can get two for about $5 each. Using the app you can get a large fry for $1. That is plenty for two people. And there you have it - $11 for 2 people. Please don't tell me you are getting those awful chicken nuggets or that you are getting sodas.

I want to know EXACTLY what you and your GF got for $40. Did she have 4 Big Macs. How can you possibly spend $40 for 2 people at McDonalds?

You sound totally sane! Probably trolling but I'll respond anyway because I love to talk about myself
We could afford the payments on a house. As I understand it, most people save up money for a down payment. First time home buyers don't have to make as big of a down payment though I believe. I haven't really looked into it. I just know there are plenty of houses in Atlanta within commuting distance of our jobs, in safe neighborhoods, in the ~300k range. I spend too much time on Zillow.
Your McDonalds order seems ridiculous for two people. I get it if you're still running a lot, but that's not a typical order for two people. I'm good with a double cheeseburger, fries, and a drink. Don't know why we're adding two 10 piece nuggets (and then mocking people for buying "low quality food" lol).
$32 was not a lot of money for what we got. We didn't need the chips and queso (it was kinda bad), and I tipped the smallest amount on the order thinking maybe the staff would favor us on quantities. And you know, I'm nice and always tip well or whatever. Probably could have gotten out of there around $20. We mostly cook for ourselves.
The surge in housing prices actually saved my parents. I'm pretty sure they were underwater on their mortgage at one point. A nice young couple working well paying finance jobs now live there. 4 bedroom house, good public school districts, with admittedly a longish commute to downtown. The express trains are about an hour. I did that for a few years though and it wasn't bad. House sold for 345k.
I have no idea where you live but I'm pretty sure you don't HAVE to spend 800k on a home to live there. I think certain places like DC, LA, or New York could be that pricy, but even then you could probably find something a lot cheaper. Kids are the real cost. Daycare costs are kind of insane. I don't plan on having kids for another 4-5 years because I'm going back to school in the fall.
Basically, if you make around what we make or more, I don't really think you should be complaining. I would be embarrassed to complain if I were you. Like aww boo hoo you're worth more than 99% of people on the planet. And what? You have to pay taxes? That sounds awful bro. Your life is so hard!
well this discussion has taken an unexpected turn.
I will say how good chipotle's biz model is. A steak burrito where I live is around $15 now. Add in a drink and it's $19ish. For a mediocre burrito! And they line up for it.
I think twice at a restaurant if a dish costs $15-$20. That's a restaurant I would consider too expensive to go to normally. But Chipotle has people paying that for zero ambiance and strictly mediocre food.
I will say that a chicken burrito is only $12 and if you don't get a drink, that's 1,000 calories for just $12 and that's pretty good after a long run.
Ukraine is running out of money and ammo and m'aga is gleeful to be helping Putin on his latest conquests. Sickos.
Now you see why Russia did so much to get Trump elected, why all those Trump campaign officials met with Russian spies and why they lied to law enforcement about meeting with those Russian spies.
Russia and Trump are on the same team: Defeat Europe, end Western influence in the world.
The Republican Party is Putin's return on investment.

Ryan J. Reilly @ryanjreilly In case you missed it: “A man who was convicted of manslaughter for killing a civilian while he was deployed in Iraq nearly 20 years ago has been arrested and charged with assaulting law enforcement officers at the Capitol on Jan. 6.”
He was probably just taking a selfie. Fake news. Deep State. 100% corrupt DOJ. Etc.
