Very true. I don’t know how you even take that job knowing the pressures that you’re walking into. Cale’s upperclassmen he left behind are probably better versed to run the team than anyone who hasn’t had the privilege of learning from the master himself.
What does WCU have as far as scholarship per gender?
Not enough to fund a respectable track program. The athletic director doesn't support the team either. Whoever takes this job is going to regret it.
Any word on the CSUN job? Did they have an XC coach this fall?
Fully funded.
Samford, ETSU, and WCU only schools fully-funded in the SOCON. None others close!
Spoke with people within the program and was told half funded on both sides at WCU. No truth to being fully funded.
WCU men have 6 scholarships, Women have 8. Administration is trying to cut back.

Fully funded for women is 18.0 scholarships;
If WCU has only 8.0 this isn't even half.
ETSU is NOT fully funded, they got football back and cut some of the Men's Scholarships. Gotta love Title IX
I was offered the WCU job on Monday, after talking about the salary, scholarships, and direction of the program with my wife, l decided to turn down the job. It just wasn't worth it and the AD didn't paint a pretty picture for 5 to 10 years down the road in terms of cutting down the roster and reducing scholarships. WCU is one of the least funded teams in the conference, definitly not 1/2 funded with scholarships. Little to no support from administration and a frustrated alumni base.They are down to 2 candidates, good luck to the remaining candidates.

From an outside perspective, with no ties to the university, not knowing any of the players involved, and with 20 years of coaching experience at 1 school with a solid administration, it sounds like.
A. WCU doesn't sound like a good situation unless you are desperate to be a head coach.
B. WCU is desperate to hire a head coach.
Why would you offer two people the job without hearing from your first/top candidate?
The suspenseful drama coming from this program over the last 3 months has made the 2018-2019 season very entertaining.

They didn't offer 2 people at once you are being trolled.
It's strange because I have been told by current head coaches that I consider mentors that I should apply to those positions anyways and I have about two years of coaching experience. I definitely would not have applied to positions that I didn't meet the requirements for if I wasn't told that, while there's obviously no true substitute for experience, knowing people helps to the point where that year may not matter and it's also possible that the head coach just still likes what he/she sees and gives me a chance for an interview. Sucks that you guys have to deal with unqualified candidates but from a volunteer's end it's totally worth the 15 minutes to apply lol.

NC Promise makes tuition $500. Meals, housing, parking, and other things have increased over the last few years. It's my understanding that the plan was to make WCU more of a regional commuter school and to keep smart, top qualified, students in Western NC. If you live within 30 minutes of the university and don't mind living with your mom for 4 years, then yes, $500 tuition is great. Cost of attendance is still on par with other mid-major Universities.
It's amazing that WCU is getting so much attention on this thread.
