A coronation room with an elevated throne platform, not a ballroom.
HA!! incredible. Next up, TRUMPRushmore. Do we take one down or just add Trump?
FOOL
FYI: there is no remaining monolithic rock to add another head. It would have to be a movie-set fake facade. Cheap face in the front, void in the back and on the side. First rains will wash it away, so Trump will have to use his magic weather altering Sharpie pen to force the rains to go somewhere else.
It's incredible to reflect on the fact that 2 huge components of Trump's base are:
1) Wealthy people who don't need ANY help from him to enjoy their extremely comfortable lives. And yet they still support that miserable human being.
2) Decidedly non-wealthy people who could use government's help, were dumb enough to think that Trump would provide that, and STILL think that it's OK that he has and is doing things clearly counter-productive to that. And yet they still support that miserable human being.
nice 'people at the diner' story about how the piggists in GA are dealing with supporting Greene and Trump.
they just can't conceive of supporting anyone but Republicans. Not in their souls. No matter what Dem policies would help them. Policy isn't the point.
Call me too harsh, but it's one of THE big things that we've learned about America in the last 10 years. Salt of the earth rural America is absolutely chock full of surprisingly bad people. Sure, they might help you along the side of the road, and that's obviously better than the alternative. But they're also perfectly OK with racism, stealing elections, blatant corruption, pathological dishonesty and cruelty, masked mystery agents sending non-criminals to CECOT, etc, etc, etc.
I can't really disagree. But clearly in the world we live in, the underdog/overdog filter is useful here.
if racism is being used to kick poor underserved people while they are down, that's worse than racism used to try to help the poor underserved people.
In the real world, trumpists making it harder for black people in Alabama to vote is worse than bidenists making it easier for Alabama's black kids to get into college.
But sure, it's cheap and easy to say 'all actions decided by race are bad'
It is entirely possible to be mostly or entirely against affirmative action in hiring and college admissions, while (EASILY) seeing Trumpism as comprehensively horrible, and a mortal danger to this country. The two have little or nothing to do with each other.
And I'm Example #1.
I think making that distinction is too hard for people in Trumplandia. They can't get it done.

agreed that most people are basically racist. That's just humanity.
BUT
the difference is that the D party takes actions to reduce the harm from racism and pull the nation together, while the current R party is openly racist and is in fact intending to separate us from each other by race. The country openly says that its intention is to defend the white race from invasion by black and brown people. The leader of the GOP is an open racist and encourages us all to be.
I'm no genius, but I think there's a difference there.
(for the record, my congressional district is 65% white, then a big mix of everything else)
Democrats advocate for affirmative action / DEI. That is racism
MAGAs advocate for racist hiring. White males hold an undeserved, bloated percentage of the highest paying jobs, and MAGAs intend to keep biased hiring practices in a losing effort to keep control as they become a minority. THIS IS RACISM.

it is interesting...you go into flyover country and people are very nice, nicer than coastal city people.
but then they vote for trump and his authoritarian government.
Easier now to understand the southern conservative segregationists who beat up black kids for sitting at the wrong seat in a restaurant. That cruelty has always been out there in Trumplandia. There's no innate kindness out there.
Between, say, the Carter and Clinton admins piggies had to hide it a bit. But Trump has invited the devil to come out to play. And he has.

No doubt.
But think about what that says about a person. A mountain of horrible against, say, the existence of affirmative action (from which it's reasonable to assume that I've personally suffered from to some extent, given my demographics and chosen profession).
Or, a mountain of horrible against trans bathrooms and/or men in women's sports.
And you go with the mountain, over and over again.
Tremendous corporations whose leaders wake up in the middle of the night worrying about whether or not they're kissing the r*** of the president enough ?
JUST LIKE free markets are supposed to work !
Winning !!! We're for freedom and free markets and law and order, and.........!!!
many/most of those companies that donated to the ballroom have big regulatory issues in front of the White House so they are bribing the president. I know Rs have been convinced by trump that bribes are good and fair, so the situation is difficult to talk about.
Trump is stealing a public golf course along the Potomac River to "redevelop". The coronation room donors have already paid to owners of new multi-building dollar buildings there

Yes. I married into flyover country. And until Trump, I had a lot of fondness for spending time in rural America. That has certainly changed, and a lot.
The President of the United States publicly threatens the state of Indiana that he will withhold federal funding (Their own tax dollars) for stuff like schools bridges etc if they don’t help him cheat in the next election. Pure un debatable extortion.
And the story is not Trumps criminality. The story is that some in his own party told him to pound sand.

Reminds me of a question I OFTEN ask myself (and wish I knew more about the plausibility): If and when the Democrats ever get complete control again, HOW FREAKIN' MANY new and SCOTUS-proof laws (and Amendments?!) will they need to write ?!?!?!
Aside from passing a budget, I think that maybe it should be ALL that that president and Congress does. Reflect on 8 years of Trump and ask, "HOW in HELL do we stop that from ever happening again ???"
Practical political considerations aside (and I'm sure that they're huge, too), I'm not a constitutional lawyer, so I have no idea how possible such an effort could be?
To prove the point, let’s take a poll of all you white liberals and ask how many of you live in black neighborhoods, when you no doubt could? For the record, my neighborhood is about 40% White, 40% black, 19% hispanic. And some Jamaican's .
(for the record, my congressional district is 65% white, then a big mix of everything else)
I don't guess I'd qualify as truly liberal, but I am mostly white, so I'll play too:
As with much of NYC, my Congressional district has no majority group. Per Wikipedia, whites are a bit less than half, Asians and "Hispanics" are about a fifth each, and the remainder are mostly black/mixed . . . with the caveat that a good many of the Hispanic fifth are black.
Fun fact: As of 2010, in the Harlem census tract (where I worked for years) black people are a minority!

I saw some good commentary about this the other day. Something along the lines of: Democrats can now very publicly ask the still-Trump-subservient Indiana Governor and Republicans, 'So, please TELL US, do you AGREE with Trump now punishing the State ?!?!"
Seems like a GREAT question to watch them squirm over.

Probably nothing will happen. If the Dems had the house, senate and WH after Trump1 and J6 and did nothing, I'm sure they won't do anything next time they have all three. Everyone will say 'bring the nation together, don't tear it apart' so the Dems will go back to normal and the Rs will go back to the manosphere and podcasts and Facebook and continue their trip to Putinism.
But so many things need to happen
pardon power restricted
gerrymandering restricted
an immigration compromise
figure out the emoluments clause
forbid the exec branch from refusing to spend money on what the congress has allocated to
ideally change SCOTUS to 18 year terms instead of serving for life
put on paper how much force the WH is allowed to wield without congress
and of course, congres needs to insist the power to tax and tariff is theirs and theirs alone.
try other ways to get money out of politics. That is whack a mole but have to keep fighting that fight.

The Indiana Rs realized they would dilute their R vote current advantage and potentially remain in 2026 exactly where they currently are, and in future elections (2028) actually lose a seat. And that is what is happening in Texas where the five new R seats have already dwindled down to three/two/one, and there is danger that might end up losing one or two seats they would likely hold in 2028.
