And "they could have driven the narrative"? SERIOUSLY? Not one outlet was initially on the Trump train. They drove all the narratives they wanted AGAINST him. They tried everything they could to bring him down. Here are the narratives, off the top of my head:

this is somewhere closer to the truth than trumpers usually are, so partial credit.
the GOP estab DID try to discredit and end Trump. many GOP bigshots called him a fraud and unstable. And they were right.
But it didn't work. Why? Not because of a mass uprising in his favor, but because the conservative vote was split and so was the moderate vote. So trump, with his white nationalists, deplorables and trailer dwellers summoned enough votes to defeat the establishment candidates.
But still never forget the tiny number of people who voted for Trump in the primaries - 13 million votes out of a nation of 330 million. 4%.
Or just 20% of the people who would vote for him in the final. In other words, 80% of those voting for him in the general didn't vote for him in the primary.
It's not hard fora candidate running against a divided establishment to win the GOP primary.

As a new convert to Christian Scientism, my sincere religious beliefs are opposed to going to the doctor for any reason whatsoever.
