The question is did you look at the Wyoming data? Because when I look at the Wyoming data, the ratio of unvaxxed to vaxxed death rates and hospitalization rates since delta became predominant is about between 3 and 4 to 1. If you take the average ratio for August, September and October, the case rate is about 3.2 times greater among the unvaxxed than the vaxxed, the death rate is 2.9 times greater among the unvaxxed than the vaxxed and the hospitalization rate is 3.33 times greater among the unvaxxed than the vaxxed.

So while you are referring to some sensational article trying to instill confidence that vaccines provide 20 times the protection, the reality is that vaccines have been failing for a while, and the real protection is closer to about 1/6th of what you and the CDC are claiming with their bogus numbers. It is this false narrative being sold by the CDC and fools like you that is leading people to go maskless, increase interactions, etc. By overstating the effectiveness of the vaccines, you are increasing the likelihood of people dying.

I could do this sort of analysis for every state you are putting out there. The reality is that the vaccines are far less effective than you have been misled to believe. While I will agree that if an individual is over 30 and has never had COVID, they should be vaccinated, the previously infected and those under 30 face minimal risks and achieve little from vaccination (with not insignificant risks).

Actually, in the case of New York, the more powerful force at work is the concept of natural immunity (which your ilk seem to claim does not exist in spite of loads of evidence to the contrary). The reason numbers have been low in New York since January (again, you are using a period where only a small fraction of the population was even eligible for vaccination by going back to January) is because of their abject failure in limiting transmission early in the pandemic. Natural immunity is powerful, it is persistent (far more persistent than vaccinated immunity) and it is far more effective against variants than vaccinated immunity. The reason Vermont (that has the highest vaccination rate in the US) is struggling with hospital capacity at this point in the pandemic is due to the fact that the vaccines were designed around a variant of COVID that no longer exists).

First of all, the Wyoming numbers are not from the CDC. They are from the Wyoming Department of Health. Your rant against the CDC is not only misplaced here, but suggests that you have issues that really cloud your judgment.

Second of all, even if your analysis is correct, the argument that the vaccines are a failure because the chance of dying from Covid is only 3 times as great if you are not vaccinated is not persuasive.

Third of all, why limit the analysis to only 3 months when we've had the vaccines for 11, almost 12, months now?

Total unvaccinated cases: 54,012

Total vaccinated hospitalized cases: 246

Total unvaccinated hospitalized cases: 1416

Total vaccinated deaths: 110

Total unvaccinated deaths: 518

Thank you for providing this information, which only proves how effective the vaccines are at preventing serious illness and death from Covid.

The Wyoming data appears not to control for the difference in vaccination rates across age groups, so another of Simpson's paradox, thus putting us on track for our weekly quota of repeating the same mistake yet again.

I don't think that natural immunity is as big a factor as you claim.

As of August 30, 2020, NYC had a 7 day average of 4 deaths from Covid per day. You would think that at this point, with all of the cases that NYC had in the first few months of the pandemic, there would have been good protection based on natural immunity. However, despite all this natural immunity, deaths per day rose to a 7 day average of 91 by March 3, 2021.

Since then, deaths have again declined and were at 11 as of yesterday.

It appears that the vaccines have had a bigger influence on lowering the death rate in NYC than natural immunity.

I'm pretty sure Vermont has been discussed extensively already in this thread, but looking at Vermont only reinforces the idea that the vaccines are very effective. Given the high vaccination rate in Vermont, it is more useful look at the rate per 100K than absolute numbers.
