The difference is that Floyd was killed while in controlled custody, not in the act of a federal crime that could not be stopped without force. At the Capitol, there was a mob of thousands actively committing federal crimes and police were grossly outnumbered and already overrun. Floyd was fully subdued and begging while onlookers pleaded with the officer who was under no such external duress like the DC police. Vastly different situations.

A few days after Jan 6th the republicans widely criticized and condemned Trump for all that he did to incite that day. Even Fox News was completely done with Trump. They were done with him and his insanity.
But the thirst for power and money was too strong. When they learned that Trumps cult would not abandon him for his election denying craziness they stopped denouncing Trump. Then when Trump was gifted his immunity from criminal justice, they went all in again. Now they are full blown election deniers and bend the knee to whatever Trump wants.
