I am not a big fan of the Colorado decision. Not because Adolf Von Twittler is not guilty of sedition. We all saw him insight his lunatics. And even to this day he praises what they did instead of trying to dial that crap back.
Instead I worry about the GOP bastardizing this just decision and just keeping people off the ballot as retribution or because it would help them win. Plenty of dishonest GOP state lawmakers and governors would be happy to do so.
For future reference, the word you want here is "incite".
And yes, from the perspective of what the impact of this decision is likely to be, there are some reasonably likely, rather undesirable outcomes.
To the contrary: He has given them, or reinforced, the sense that they are the *real* Americans--a message that the rest of the culture had not sent them for quite a while. And they love him for it.
The illusion of power.
If DJT wins in the Electoral College--especially given that the Senate probably will revert to the GOP in 2025, and the Republicans may actually increase their majority in the House--that power is not going to just be illusory.
again, CO had a 5-day-long trial. Official trial. It found that Trump was guilty of insurrection.
Really? Is Colorado putting him in jail for insurrection then? Did they get a unanimous verdict? Did Trump have the chance to defend himself at this "trial"?
Insurrection is a federal crime for which he hasn't been charged
sorry, does the 14th Amendment require a formal charge and conviction of 'insurrection?'
of course it doesn't. There was no formal indictment and trial of every Confederate after the Civil War.
This is the same thing, in line with the original intent of the 14A. Originalists must be very happy with the CO ruling.
And yes, at the trial trump was invited to defend himself.
Hardloper this addresses your questions well. Conway in the Atlantic.
"Last night changed my mind. Not because of anything the Colorado Supreme Court majority said. The three dissents were what convinced me the majority was right. The dissents were gobsmacking—for their weakness." https://t.co/EZctd3WrJb
What made me realize how WEAK the Colorado case was the fact that they had three dissenting judges when all seven were appointed by Democrats. Just because you quote the twitter account of some biased idiot nobody has heard of doesn’t make him an authority.

and yet I'm sure could not name a single point made by a dissenter. Without looking it up. That's how you roll.

Why would I bother to read an opinion from a show trial based on a farce. In order to exclude an individual due to insurrection you first have to charge and convict an individual of such. That is how the system works: innocent until proven guilty. Thus far he has not been charged nor convicted of such in any jurisdiction (as much as they have tried, nobody has brought such charges).

of all your misguided posts this might be the most misguided. Almost every sentence is a flop.
I feel it is appropriate to pause for a moment and reflect on this fact.
The former President of the United States. A man who presents himself as a successful big shot billionaire businessman and Mega real estate tycoon. Yes, this former leader of the free world is tonight whining on social media because a female pop star that is big time popular with adoring giggly teenage girls won person of the year by a magazine instead of him.
Man child who was never told "no" that he couldn't buy his way out until now. It is really hard to understand the worship of a narcissist who has been obviously breaking laws for decades. His charity, university, and now company convicted of fraud. He is a pathological liar. He is so delusional, he might actually believe his ever changing lies. But 30+% of country would still vote for him. It is sad. Fortunately. 50%+ won't vote for him as proven in his 2 elections and many of his endorsed candidates.
Ahh the old GQP deflect and distract - never mention changing sex but you stuck to your Tucker guns and worked in in there!
The victims in question would have the benefit of medical and mental health professionals that DID NOT impregnate them to help make that decision vs their rapey/forced birth parents. So yes a decision could be made in the mother to be's best interest. I know that is hard to grasp for forced birthers.
The law is taking into account real situations that allow for ALL situations vs biblical interpretation.
"I know that is hard to grasp for forced birthers."
__________
"Birth" can refer not only to bearing a live child but also to a dead one born via stillbirth. And direct abortion results in the forced birth of a slaughtered innocent human being.
If there is going to be a forced birth, one in which there is no deliberate slaughter, and one in which two live rather than only one, strikes a fair mind as vastly preferable.

He's a very convenient vessel of hate... that pretty much explains it

Let that marinate for a while in your cranium.
I know, I know... not to mention he was much more concerned about his popularity than leading throughout his whole presidency.

Wasn't he the only president that during his actual presidency would travel and have campaign rallies in school gymnasiums because it was reported he needed that crowd support? It was also reported that he hated the white house because he missed the weekly adoration of the wedding crowds at his rat infested, 80's decorated golf club. At the start of covid, he hated that fact that the media attention was going on Fauci's press conferences so he decided to do his own train wreck press conferences where he bragged that the scientists were astounded at how smart he was about virology.
An unknown percentage of this country thinks he should be President again. Staggaring indictment of the stupidity of the American electorate.

As a counterpoint, consider the "Greenhouse effect." This refers to the fact that most Supreme Court Justices who are appointed by conservative presidents tend to become much more liberal in their rulings after appointment:
The best recent example is Chief Justice John Roberts. Appointed by George W. Bush, it was widely assumed that he would rule against the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (aka., "Obamacare"). Instead...he cast the deciding vote *affirming* that it was indeed constitutional.
Judges do have political points of view. But their job is to apply the law as they understand them. As current Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch once wrote, "A judge who likes most of [his or her] decisions isn't a very good judge."
Also, it's not accurate to say that the Colorado Supreme Court has banned Trump from the ballot. You can read the full ruling here:
The Colorado Supreme Court ruled Donald Trump is not eligible to become president again after engaging in insurrection. Read the Colorado justices' full ruling.
I skimmed it, and noticed that they upheld parts of the lower courts ruling, and actually reversed other parts. The most important detail that no one seems to want to bring up is that they are leaving enough time for the case to be decided ultimately at the Supreme Court.
We will certainly see the same arguments if the SC takes the case...but to bring this full circle, by virtue of the Greenhouse effect, the ultimate ruling is by no means a slam dunk for the GOP.

Trump: Joe Biden is weaponizing the Justice Department against me!
M@ga: Booo!
Trump: When I get into office I use the Justice Department to go after all of my enemies!! Every last one of them. It will be the biggest retribution in history. Tremendous retribution like you have never seen. And I will deliver it for you.

Back in the day when I lived in Westchester NY I heard that trump would show up to the golf club in Briarcliff on Saturdays and his driver would walk in first, announce that he was there, and ask who wanted to play 9 holes with him. I didn't believe it because why would a rich guy do this, but sure enough the first time I went there on a Saturday his driver walks in and asks if someone wants to play with him. Nobody volunteered. I played 9 holes and on my way out noticed his limo was gone. Looking back it all makes sense of course.
