Wisconsin harriers have held a strong tradition of carrying on water cooler dialogue. Dyestat and tracktalk threads are dominated by WI related conversation. Those places have mostly been forums for high school running. Older guys like us care about the whole sport- HS, College, Pro. That's why this thread has tread. But maybe this thread should be changed to "WiscoTalk" or something like that.

Gessner definitely transferring to Milwaukee now.! He is ready to run for anybody else.

Milwaukee is not an attractive job. They have a 4 lane indoor track, no outdoor track, no trails, and lots of crime. This job could take a while to fill. It's only going to pay like 40k, the person who gets it might still have to bartend at night to make ends meet.

Who is filling as interim coach? I didn’t read the article.

Don't forget that one of the top high school runners in the state passed up a bunch of scholarships from D1 schools so he could run for his hometown team, UW Oshkosh. With him I could see them moving into the top 5 of the state.

There are many more students attending D1 universities than the other 2 divisions. There are 350 D1 schools and 444 D3 schools but the D1 schools average 20,000 students while the D3 schools average 2,000 students. Wisconsin residents think that D3 is large because there are so many D3 schools in their state but there are only 4 D1 schools. Other states are much different.

I'm not sure that kid passed up scholarships to go to Oshkosh. Rumor has it he was kicked out of his first high school and brings a lot of baggage. Apparently scholarship schools wanted nothing to do with him and Oshkosh had to pull a lot of strings to get him in school because of his issues.

Indoor track IS only 4 lane

Shorewood HS, Marquette U, Wisconsin Lutheran have all been used by team in past, but with few days over 40 degrees in WI before the end of regular season, why need an outdoor?

Many trails around UWM (Oak Leaf, Hank Aaron, Lincoln Drive on Lakefront, etc)

Low crime around UWM (rich, white neighborhood on east side)

Job will be filled by August

Job pays 60k+

The job paid 67k after 29 years of service. It was probably 30k when he started with an average salary increase of 2-3%.

This will not be a high paying job, I say 40-45k tops.

Also, a 4 lane track is next to useless, you can’t even host conference championship meets there. As for your definition of trails, concrete bike paths and sidewalks do not qualify.

These two posts are beauties. Outside of the top 2 schools, what in the world were you thinking? Stevens Point at 3, Milwaukee ahead of Marquette, and Carthage making the top 10? You my friend are completely lost.

As for WIAC Genius, first off your name is a paradox, nobody who is a genius goes to a WIAC school. Your stupidity is officially confirmed when saying an NXN kid passed up power 5 schools with money offers for uw-zero. If you haven’t already done so, I urge you to open a kickstarter account to help fund medical expenses for brain surgery, because you need it.

Wow you are being super dismissive. I guess we will just see what happens this year. Something I can guarantee though is that Milwaukee and Marquette will continue to be terrible teams in Wisconsin.

He was offered books at some power 5 schools. Out of state costs are $50k so UWO became the logical choice.

1. Wisconsin

2. La Crosse- Will win the WIAC and finish top 3 at Nats again

3. Stout- Return 6 of 7 from Nats team, watch out

4. Marquette- Decent new blood mixed with mediocre Seniors could be interesting

5. Eau Claire- Schwamberger needs to work his magic after a rough track season

6. Oshkosh- Wesley S. pushes them into the conversation

7. Parkside- Solid top 2, but depth is questionable at best

8. Stevens Point- Probably ranked a little too low, could finish top 3 at WIAC, dark horse group

9. Whitewater- They will be competitive this year

10. Milwaukee- Positive: Corfeld retired. Negative: They don't have a coach

11. Carthage- Look up their roster, they could actually make some noise this year

12. Platteville- Lee could win the WIAC this year, the rest of the team is a bunch of intramural joggers

13. Wisconsin Lutheran- Just slightly better than the HS team

14. Green Bay- I think they are still DI...

15. MSOE, St. Norbert's, Carroll, River Falls- Take your pick

1-4 feels really solid. The gap from 5-10 is pretty small and will depend on freshman and injuries. Rosters probably won't start showing up for another 6 weeks, so things will bounce around a bunch with more information.

What are the odds that Gessner is a top 5 finisher for he Badgers?

This is the most accurate ranking of Wisconsin schools I have seen on this board. I would not be surprised to see Eau Claire drop a little bit after the season and teams like Oshkosh and Point move up. Top 4 in the WIAC will be a dogfight. As of right now though, this ranking is spot on.
