Dunno, Dave left the Royal Anglican Regiment at age 40, he could have involved himself with the TA before joining the RAF Reserve.
Dave could also had been infantry in the RAR and transferred his skills to the RAF Regiment at RAF Marham where they have RAF Regiment Gunner Reserves.
Anything involving Dave seems to raise many questions.

Yeah, pretty hard to believe that a bloke who had been a heavy smoker, one article said 60 a day, for the all of his service career could have been infantry, I mean, FFS they have to have a certain level of fitness, even for basic foot slogger infantry.

I think its obvious he had not heard about either the Rob Young debacle, or the other LEJOG cheater, Mark Vaz.
He had always planned to cheat this, just like Robbie and Vaz, by putting the tracker on the vehicle, hence the wild boasts, but was totally naive to the fact people would be onto him.
So he didnt train enough to complete this, as he was never planning to!
Now he has to do it properly. If that tracker starts showing anything suspicious he'll be roasted. When he starts getting nearer towns i imagine runners might meet up with him.
How fantastic if they could meet up with a van going at 2 mph with a snoozing Davey inside! :)))))))

The ends do not justify the means. Lying and cheating to raise money for charity is still lying and cheating. It is wrong and should be called out.
This guy clearly lied about his marathon time. Missing all the timing mats save the last one suggests that he may have cheated as well. If he was just boasting down at the pub, so be it. But he is using his running "accomplishments" to solicit material support for his LEJOG attempt.
And he is also lying about the attempt. He has NO CHANCE of running there in anything like one week. You say, what's the harm in trying? Trying implies that it is possible. Saying you're going to do something that you clearly are in no position to do is lying. It fools the gullible and ignorant but, surprise, people on a running forum have a pretty good sense of what is/is not possible in running. So we are not fooled.
If I say I'm going to try to run 50 miles tomorrow, that's legitimate, especially since I'm an experienced distance runner. If I say I'm going to become a starter for Arsenal so I can donate my salary to charity, and I haven't played soccer in over a decade, that is just plain bullsh!t.

Actually, it is much better to keep his results online to illustrate the cheating. With it gone, it's harder to show the missing splits and photos.
And there is no need to ban Dave from London 2017. At his current rate of progress, Dave will reach London next month long after the Marathon is over. And if by some miracle he starts pulling out 150 mile days and completes LEJOG in time, London 2017 will be another chance to catch him cheating.

The response to this challenge has been truly shocking.
Whether Dave completes the run in a good or a bad time, we are not bothered. The World Record Attempt has already been removed, and at one point Dave decided to give up on the challenge completely due to the negativity thrown towards him and his family (including his children)!
We're proud to stand by Dave, and his challenge, as this is all for Charity. Not for fame, not for gain, just for a good cause.
We have done every possible check, and we are more than satisfied that every single penny goes to Charity. It would be madness for any company to back a scam, and this isn't one. Maybe one of the community should contact Walking With Wounded themselves to satisfy any concerns, like we have.
While some in the running community seem to have made their mind up without all of the facts available to them, and some feel that Dave has somehow made them look bad, we believe that what he is doing is an amazing thing - he is doing something selfless, for other people, for free, putting his body through something that most people would never attempt, in aid of charity, not in aid of profit.
So, sorry that you feel the way you do, but we still stand behind Dave and his attempt to run from LE to JOG. After all, it is all for Charity, and nothing else matters to us. The fact that people in need benefit from this should be the important factor - not the fact that Dave is not a professional runner, not the fact that he wanted to try and beat the record - just the fact that he wanted to do something good to benefit good causes.
We have indeed blocked people for continuously attacking us and Dave on Social Media, as it really isn't fair for anyone to be bullied like that. We've tried responding, and when the attacks have continued regardless of our response, we have then blocked individuals.
The only people that stand to benefit from Dave's attempt are the people who receive support from the Charity. We had hoped that this would be seen by everyone as a good thing, irrespective of Dave's running past or his current running ability - at least he is giving it a go.
