Not one single person, who has identified themselves, has stood up for Centro. No one has posted about the "shameful" nature of this accusation on their own social media. When no one rushes to your support, you know you've done something bad.

True. But given the 'evidence' provided thus far one would have to be an absolute moron to take any of this seriously.
As stated before, this whole thread is basically on par with solar powered helicopters or some shit.

Why must his supporters identify themselves but those making accusations and spreading rumors don't. There were several early in the thread that knew Centro and stood up for him.
You must not be on Twitter if you think no has posted about the shameful nature of this accusation. Plus, half of this thread is about the shameful nature of this accusation.
What else do you need?
If your son, brother, best friend, training partner, roommate, athlete, etc was being dragged the mud on here, and you knew he was innocent, would you respond to this thread and/or contact the moderators to have it taken down? If Centro was completely innocent of this accusation, this tread would not exist, or at the very least it would contain numerous posts from people defending him.
Name one person who has publicly stood up for Centro during this scandal?

I wouldn't feel any more compelled to address this thread than I would to address solar powered helicopters or some shit.
You take this nonsense way too seriously. Way more seriously than any rational being would.

Please link me to tweets by pro runners talking about this accusation because I don't follow twitter.

Centrowitz seem to be taking it seriously enough to reply on his twitter. Why shouldn't his supporters?
If I was being accused of something on the internet that will ruin my reputation, I'd hope someone would say something to support me. This rumor has reached the mainstream media. It's being taken very seriously. Someone with some inside knowledge needs to clarify this situation for the sake of Centro's reputation. If no one has anything to say in support of Centro, it's clear he is being investigated for a suspicious drug test result.
I'm close enough to the Centro family that I could probably reach out and get some information on the matter. I respect them enough not to bother them with rumors and innuendo. They will deal with it as they see appropriate.
EVEN IF I did reach out, and I did hear, I would feel NO NEED to come on here and fight their fight for them.
If someone makes a baseless accusation, it's upon them to substantiate it. I don't have a problem with this thread staying up. Matt's a tough a boy. He'll be OK. But I think it's absolutely preposterous to think that the fact that no one outs themselves to defend him is evidence of anything.
Until ACTUAL FACTS are presented, it doesn't matter what anyone says, anonymous or not, UNLESS they are saying something that can be substantiated.

Good post. By responding any more than he has done it would bring additional publicity to this site and that's the last thing LRC deserves.
I notice rojo's friends & family still haven't come on here to deny the rumors that he kills and eats kittens.
This. Wejo should apologize.

A discussion about a particular athlete doping is another. Assertions that athlete xyz has been busted and tested positive is entirely different from ANY of those things.
We can all discuss forever whether el G doped. And everyone has their opinions, etc. But asserting that he (or Centro) tested positive, and saying all the info is about to be made public is a very different thing altogether. IMO, this should be banned unless someone puts forward something to back that up.
In this thread, after 2 days, and an absurd # of posts, has ANYONE provided any support for the assertion? Not support for whether Al Sal is dirty, or ideas why they think Centro may dope .. support for the assertion he's actually been busted.
And don't make a ridiculous comment like you or your brother did about having honest discussions about doping and then make an unsupported vague and virtually anonymous claim that you heard offline conversations about this situation recently, before this thread .. show some of that honesty you're talking about, and say what you heard, where you heard it, and what you did to follow it up. Doing what you did is about as DIShonest as it gets. If you're not willing to disclose details like that, all you're doing is gossip mongering.
You guys like to call yourselves journalists, and you wave that banner over your site frequently. What kind of journalistic integrity do you hide behind with completely unsubstantiated rumors without a single source of verification? You wanna break a story? Go ahead, find something that verifies your story, and run with it. Otherwise, retract it, and remove it.
See the Denver Post for an example.
It's ridiculously unfair to Centrowitz to leave this online. I don't say that as a fan of Centro, or the sport, but as someone who knows how long this kind of stuff sticks around the net. Content is scraped, repasted, reposted, and on and on .. and years from now, even if you remove it from LRC tomorrow, you'll see stuff from this thread around the net.

So now they must be pro runners?

That's an awful analogy. If a rumor that rojo kills and eats kittens was circulating in real life among people close to his circle, and then it proceeded to explode online on Letsrun and then the entire running world and then made its way to the national media, I'm absolutely sure his friends and family would deny it.

They don't have to be pro runners, but anyone who knows Centrowitz in real life would be nice.
I have to agree with Henry. Centro doesn't have to have friends jump on here to defend him. He is probably being advised to take the high road, and stay off the message boards.
That being said, I don't think the thread should come down. It's a message board, not an LRC article. Have you ever perused the message boards on NFL and NCAA Football fan sites? They are no different, and rife with obscenities, rumors, and malicious gossip. This scrutiny comes with the territory of being a professional athlete.
If I were Centro, I'd take this as an opportunity to thicken my skin and stay away from social media for a few days. If there is no merit to the accusations, this thread and story will be dead in a week's time.

Here's two: AJ Acosta and Ricky Simms. Now go back to your hole and stay there.

There is much that wejo/rojo could do if they wanted better forums, but they don't have an interest and/or just believe this way is best for open discussion.
I think you can still have perfectly open discussion even with more "control". Some things that to me stand out about successful forums
1) Registered Names - Yes, I know many including brojos are totally against this; but it's good. It holds people slightly more accountable. It could also be easily to have an alt by using multiple emails for multiple accounts. Elite could easily have an "official" account and then a total anon account.
I'll be honest, no one has ever presented to me a compelling reason not have registered names. Under registered names a person can still have multiple accounts.
2) More Intelligent Sections - LRC default section is a giant ass forum with everything. One could for instance have a subforum called Doping/Doping Discussion. People can speculate and discuss all they want their without the negative vibe spilling over in general.
3) Banning - Mods here don't really ban users. They should be. Things that insults to users, or general content-less posts should result in bans. 2 day ban is standard, if user keeps shit posting they get might get a week or month. If it still doesn't stop it's an IP perm.
As it is people are perfectly allowed to post all kinds of drivel, derail topics, and all out flame users. I actually like hearing Ventolin's side of things even if I don't always agree...but he should have banned long ago for flaming users. RCS is another example. He sometimes has intelligent stuff to say, but generally is posting contentless drivel to get responses.
I'm sure lots of people will disagree, saying that reins in LRC and ruins the "fun", and in a sense it does; but it also keeps the forum from being a cesspool. I don't think you can have both, it's one or the other.
Much of what makes this place as it exists now is the way people do act. Lots of trolling, and especially flaming. People routinely insult and degrade other posters here, and except for the rare types that rubs off on people, and creates the hostile environment.
^^ This. Hearing that these kinds of discussions and rumors are going on is helpful and interesting to those of us who aren't insiders or otherwise plugged in to the sport. But the lack of registered names much less any kind of moderation (apart from inconsistently deleting threads) means you have to wade through about 300 posts of incoherent drivel to get to the 45 or so posts that either convey useful information or make a coherent point.

Are you suggesting insiders would post under their real names? Obviously not - requiring a real registration would clear the place of insiders pretty fast.
but the best argument for keeping the boards anonymous is that...they work. There is a special magic here that keeps people coming back. Why tinker?
but the single best thing they could do here is to put a 'like' button. It would be so great to flash through all the crap and find a post with 100 likes...
