Yeah, even though I had nice 720p video feed that didn't stutter every 2 minutes, I went with the BBC feed just for the announcers. They also seemed to mix the ambient stadium noises at a higher level which also contributes to the excitement.
NBC's coverage felt more like a reluctant fulfillment of an obligation, whereas the Brits act like it's the most exciting night of the Olympics (because it was for them).
I want to go to the top of the highest building in the United States and yell, "I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN DISTANCE RUNNER!"
Not that I wasn't before but I want people to hear it.
Too bad the top 5 or 10 were perfectly capable of sub 27 minute 10K's. It was a slow championship race, what do you expect. Rupp and Farah kicked ass. They were least tired ones with 400 to go.
The speed of the last 4000m took the sting out of everyone's kicks
That was by far the best race I've ever seen (the most exciting one) !!!!!
I really started to get hyper with two laps to go. Rupp looked so calm and he looked as if he was in perfect position. I started getting up, jumping in the air yelling "COME ON GALEN !!!!!!!!", with one lap to go, I couldn't believe what I was seeing !!!! I was yelling so hard !!!! When Galen passed third place at the end of the race, I thought I was dreaming !!!!! He wasn't too far off from Farah too. I had tears in my eyes. I had been reading things about this race since the end of 2011 and boy, this race lived up to its expectations !!
I watched the race with my mom. I live in a small flat next to Paris and my mom was trying to calm me down. She thought that my screams would make some of the neighbors call the police.
I'm still so hyper. I used to live in Denver (up unitl I was 11). Now I'm 20 but I started distance running when I was 16 and ever since I've fallen in love with it. This race is going to be an icredible source of motivation for the next year to come. I ran a 37 minute 10K in June of 2012 and I'm looking to run a sub 35 in June of 2013.
I'm sure that if I keep this race in mind throughout the whole year, I'll be able to reach my goal.
Anyhoo, back to Galen ! GALEN RUPP OLYMPIC SILVER MEDALIST (still doesn't sound real :D) !!! He beat every single Kenyan and Ethiopian out there tonight !!!
One thing I desperately want is : A HUGE POSTER OF GALEN RUPP IN MY ROOM !!!!! I already have Mo's autograph. I've been looking for a poster with Galen for ages. Anyone know if it's possible to get one ?
One things for sure : It's midnight in France right now. I'm so hyper, it looks like I'll be reading things about the race the entire night without getting one second of sleep.
Today, I kept rewatching and rewatching and rewatching Galen Rupp's workout that they put on Flotrack. It was pumping me up big time for the 10K that was to follow.
Normally, a neighbor of mine recorded the entire race on DVD !! I'm so excited to get it !!!! He's going to be taping the 5 000 too. But for now I guess I'll have to satisfy myself with youtube videos :).
One last thing to say : MO, GALEN and SALAZAR, I look up to you guys as gods !!!! I hope you guys write lots of books in the future !!!!
I'm the only one in my whole building who was this excited tonight. I don't know where the next Rupp fan was in France, but he could be Km's aways :D.
That was perfect! As an expat who has lived in the US for over 20 years I was as excited about Rupp's silver medal as Mo's gold medal. Had BBC streamed coverage with sound on lagging about 30 seconds behind the NBC coverage, meant the last lap commentary was out of synch, but I was screaming so much I didn't hear any of it anyway. I mean wow! unbelievable! As a jaded 55 year old, I can't remember being as excited about a race ever!
They had a piece aired on Mo Farah before the start of the 10k and some clips were shown of him in the gym. What kind of gym workouts does he do? Anyone have information on this?

Too many are describing the race by 5K splits- WRONG. Should be 1st 2K (5:59) & last 8K (21:30 = ~26:50 pace).

I think the Ethiopians raced very bad, they should have pushed the pace...and a bit of a downer to see KB like this, probably his last olympic track race:-(.... but who knows Haile is talking about Marahon in Rio, maybe we will see Kenny again in 4 years, or at least in the 2013 world championship....
now I cross my fingers to the Ethiopian ladies for tomorrow's marathon :-)
It's been 20 years since I've run competitively, and 10 years since I last commented on letsrun, but I have to drop a comment and raise a glass to Salazar, Rupp, and Farah. I never thought I'd live to see the day. I felt good about the slow pace, and am amazed that the Kenyans let the first 5000 m go so slow. Then things started to pickup. I'm not sure how many of you noticed when Farah turned around to Rupp and said, "let's go" somewhere around lap 21 or 22, a gesture that sent chills. And then, the finish. Like many of you here, I frightened the family dog by maniacally jumping up and down in the last 100 m, then proceeded to grab both of my kids at the end of the race (who were thrilled to both be picked up at the same time -- not a daily occurrence). And yes, this jaded old former distance runner had a tear in my eye. May this be the start of many great things for US distance running.
No wonder Cam had nothing left at the last lap.

I loved the smile on Rupp's face when he saw Farah and he would take first and second. That smile was topped a few seconds over the line when Farah turned and beamed in delighted surprise, seeing that Rupp had been right behind him.

Don't count your chicks before the eggs hatch! I don't see how Kenya is going to lose Gold in both women and men marathons. The weakest in men's team is Abel Kirui yet he is a well known championship racer, with his closest winning margin being at least a minute. Expect a 2:05 this time. It may be Wilson Kipsang's first outing in Kenyan colors(marathon) but then he is the fastest in the field and only 4 seconds slower than the world record. Of greater importance is how he raced in Virgin London marathon in April. He ran with the pacers and dropped everyone by 30km, running 12km alone enroute to 2:04:44. If pushed, he could have run close to 2:03.

Off that very slow 2 km split it is surprising no one tried to push the pace harder than 65 sec the first 5km or the 2nd 5km. The result is the slowest winning time since 92 games. I thought Tadessa was going to split the 2nd 5km in 13:05 instead of ~13:25 especially since he has no kick.
Hopefully someone will inject some pace in the beginning or middle of 5km race to make it more challenging for the UK & America. Lol
