Yes the weather may get bad in the winter in Edinboro but you know what???.....its pretty much like that every year so to use that as an excuse for poor running or for not being able to train is not the Edinboro way. It has not stopped generations (1970s-and beyond) of edinboro runners from running well in the spring. If you asked coach watts he would probably say that they simply did not perform to expectation and he wouldnt blame it on the weather.
just saw the start lists for 5k carney's in on the front main page, and there are more "furriners" listed now anyways, but i understand what you're saying hoovis.

Years ago (many years now), Pappa said the same thing to me about using your track. So, one late snowy night in December when I was getting ready for track, I took him up on it and drove over from IUP. Got to the track, had a good work out and all...but, when I came out of the field house, it was snowing like crazy.
Long story short, ended up with my car in the median on Route 422...had to call a tow truck to come pull me out.

Without trying to start an argument, the first thing Coach Watts would say is that runners should avoid message boards.
The typical routine of track season is to come back with moderate mileage underneath our belts to sustain mulitple intervals with a decent amount of rest on the basketball court.
The first meet you are allowed/expected to run bad, there is an expected improvement for the second meet, and be ready to race end of indoors at Kent State or you will not be going to Talahassee for the week.
Florida provides what is supposed to be the start of training that will allow for national qualifying times. This is dependent on actaully being able to use the outdoor track when we return. In the case of this past season there was one opportunity to be on the track between mid-March and the Bucknell meet. That left 3 weeks to prepare for the PSAC meet.
Obviously in past years plenty of Boro runners had turned out good times. Something else Watts would be quick to point out is that the talent level is nowhere near as good as the 70's & 80's. And since there was about 12 inches of snow at the end of 2006 we had about 13 feet in three months that included two weeks were the temp was not above 10 and Watts recomended only staying on tredmills. This opposed to snow usually starting around PSAC's and regionals and continiung til March.
Success in the Boro usually means being able to limit the miles you are used to doing and have the confidence to quickly pull things together which not everyone is capable of doing.
Bluman... quickly to respond to you, I did not even look into getting a 6th year as there is no way I could have afforded that. The team will be fine without me.
I have been racing usually becuase I knew the race director or visiting a teammate. If I stay injury free over the next 2 months Steamtown is really the only goal I have.
I'm back in S/WB so as far as taking you up on the track offer I can't personally do that and the Boro is getting one at the UC but who knows how much the team will be able to use it.
At least for the next two years while I still know some people I plan on being at con, reg, nats. Obviously the Boro does not keep good relationships with everyone so there is no way I will be on a Bill Buckenmeyer level.

hahaha....no one will ever be on the bill buckenmeyer level. he slept more on our couch in sru than his own place up in new york this past year guaranteed. he's actually living with jake more in deleware this year in the same complex as Robson, so i'm sure those guys will be to all the meets.
i have noticed that boro isnt as social as the rest of the psac. its a shame too bc you guys seem like you would make some runs pretty fun. steamtown is definetly a good choice for a first thon. i'm plannin on trainin for that next year, so you can let me know how it is.
Interesting, because I know that the Boro used to be incredibly social. Rivera used to hang some at the IUP cross house (in fact, I know he banged a fat chick on the front porch in a drunken stupor). Plus, I know a lot of the other Boro guys like Platt did their fair share of drinking with the IUP guys. And Tonkin served me the very first beer I ever drank. Also, I remember when I was at Ship, partying with the Boro guys (and cigar smoking gals) after Nats on several occassions. Maybe all of the social rejects from Punxsutawney that went to the Boro and got kicked off of the team changed all that...Hoovis

The Boro guys were always social and friendly with all people who were decent guys.
Of course, when you are a good team with a swager (which is much different than arrogant attitude) there will always be people who do not like you. Additionally, it's a competition and some people get bent out of shape and misunderstand the meaning of competition.
Hell, I did some amateur boxing and was a high school and collegiate wrestler and I never disliked my competition even after they may have planted me on my ass or head. And Luke was a great HS wrestler as well, and he was as social as anyone you'll meet.
If you check with some of the old guard you will find that the Boro was tough guys with a swager on the course, but off the course we were just a bunch of young guys looking for a laugh between training and racing. And there are many cats across the nation from those days that always sought us out to have a good time.(Dehaven was a frequenter)
There were no tools or attitudes on the team, but when the gun went off, we all met our obligation of putting it all out there in a fair game.

What's up man? I heard the camping trip just passed by and you guys had a pretty good time. I was also camping that whole week, 7 miles back in the woods, away from everything, but it was pretty sweet. Mt. Rainier is a pretty sweet place to live for the summer. I tried calling you yesterday but you number doesn't work anymore. I saw you guys had a good day at brentwood. I have been running a decent bit since I've been out here. I'm already down to 175 lb. Just wanted to say Hi and I'll see you guys in Sept.

I'm willing to bet that you're not racing still means your running sub 33 minutes for 10K. From everything I've heard about you -- you're hard core and there's no way you've just walked away from it.
